Kari Lizer, Old Chrisine’s creator, says that the cancellation didn’t surprise her, especially considering the fact that the show was taken out of the Monday night block of sitcoms and has been put on hiatus many times during its run.
She recently told TV Guide, “As far as what happened at CBS, we’ve suffered from a serious lack of support from them since the beginning… I hate to say it, but I’m afraid they don’t care much for the female-of-a-certain-age point of view over there. How else do you explain them squandering the talents of Julia [Louis-Dreyfus] and Wanda [Sykes]?”

Weren't similar thoughts expressed when Cybill was cancelled in the 90s?
But, wasn't the show replaced by Jenna Elfman's sitcom? I don't get the argument, but I never found JLD's show that funny. I thought Sykes and Hamish Linklater were wasted on that show.

I've never really gotten the show either, but isn't five years a long time for any show, but especially for one with so so ratings?
ANYTHING is preferable to something with Jenna Elfman, though.

Hey lady YOU are the one who created this turkey, YOU are the one who's got some 'splaining to do. This show was ghastly. The fact that it ran five years is a testimonial to the network hoping, praying it would catch on with someone somehow.

The erratic schedule of the show ultimately did it in, which may have been a strategic move by the network to flush it out. It was a horrible disservice to one of the funniest shows on television. It never ever failed to make me laugh. Julia and Wanda were comedic gold. A Lucy and Ethel for the new millennium. This is one I'll watch endlessly on DVD.

After having a rough first season (in my opinion), the second season until now were absolutely hilarious. Every facial expression and gesture Julia made caused me to laugh (hard). And I thought every member of the supporting cast were fantastically funny. It really is an homage to sitcoms of old....I will really miss this show.

I just caught up on the last two episodes of the season and I laughed hard and consistently from beginning to end of both of them. As far as old-school traditional three camera sitcoms go, Christine has been the best on the air since it premiered. The writing was very good and the ensemble hilarious.
I agree that the every shifting schedule was the major problem. Five years would be a perfectly good run, but it feels a little short because one of the seasons was truncated by the writers strike.
