Are you talking about the original series? I'm a little worried that it's going to be remade with an American cast. It could lose a lot in the translation.

It's terrific. Very deadpan. The style is faithful to the brilliant British original series, probably because Ricky Gervais (the creator and star of the British version) co-wrote the teleplay. I love it.

I haven't seen the original. I liked this version, but I have a feeling it worked better as a British sitcom.

Is there any reason to watch if you've already seen the original? I found the original, mildly amusing, at best, so wasn't all that keen on rewatching it with a different cast.

This show just being made here makes me think NBC will attempt to butcher AbFab or something next, and that would be HORRIBLE.

The Office was ok... but that's what I'd read, the pilot's ok because it's just a rewrite of the original pilot, but that it gets much better in the next few episodes.
BTW, orangeskittles... the already tried doing an AbFab, I don't remember the name but it had Mary McDonell (sp) in it and it was pretty terrible.

I'm such a huge fan of the original British series, so I'm a bit nervous about watching this. At least, Ricky was involved in it, so I'm definitely checking it out tonight (I recorded it).

nah, i watched the first half just to see steve carell (who's a comic genius) but got bored and switched over to life on a stick, which comes from the same warped mind that brought us andy richter controls the universe, in time for the spartacus as a dimwit scene. good offbeat stuff.

The original Office is outstanding. I thought the version last night was funny. It seems that they stuck very close to the script.

I caught just a few minutes last night; I'd rather wait and see one of the "new" episodes to form an opinion. But I already know I have a major problem with this: I seriously miss Mackenzie Crook (Gareth), and to only a slightly lesser extent, Martin Freeman (Tim). The American equivalents don't appeal to me at all, esp. that Rainn whats-it who is doing the "Gareth" role; he's just icky, IMO. I always found Mackenzie cute in that quirky/bizarro sort of way.

Any other Guffman/Best in/Wind fans finding the Christopher Guest angle very satisfying? The use of the single camera and the documentary format just conjured up the Guest technique for me, and it's frankly a nice place to be.

I was reminded of Christopher Guest's technique watching the original British series. Didn't watch the American one though.

I was definitely reminded of Guest's method while watching this; it's very good for this, but I'm not sure how many other sitcoms could make it work.
