I realized that when I turned the computer on and realized how late it was. meh.

I was just looking at Anthony's MySpace, and the comment I left for him has a part about Adam; I was like ".... I wrote that? I'm a loser."

Here's an extremely long, very detailed review from the IMDb Rent board which I'm copying here because I know not all of you have accounts there. I feel kind of shaken up just reading it. I can't imagine what it must have been like to actually be there,

by - teenicore-1 2 hours ago (Tue Apr 25 2006 07:22:29)

Sorry this is long. I already typed it and I'm sure IMDB will edit out all the profanity. SECONDLY, I love Rosario and none of this is meant as a personal attack on her though clearly some will see it that way.

AHEM.

FINALLY the lights went down, and the music for Seasons of Love started. The noise was DEAFENING. They walked out from the upstage door – and they were like… sort of wearing costumes. Sort of. Fredi had on a Joanne coat, Anthony had on his Mark scarf and jacket, Daphne had on a pair of spandex pants and her Mimi boots (they were Camo and they were HOT), Jesse had on his beanie, Kristin Lee Kelly was wearing EVERY INCH of her RockeTease costume, etc.

When they start to sing, there’s always a moments delay between them singing and the lights coming up all the way on their faces. And when the lights came up on them, there was Anthony standing 10 feet in front of us, tears streaming down his face. He wasn’t just crying a little bit, he was crying a lot.

I lost it – and actually so did everybody else so I didn’t feel too bad. Everybody I could see in front of us was shaking with sobs. The cast looked so beautiful, though upon further count it was obvious they were missing Gilles but we’ll get back to that later. It was pretty clear at this point that it was going to be just a concert and not the show, but we were ok with that.

I think Anthony randomly started singing Halloween next. I got very excited - but I was kind of sad that they were going to be doing the songs out of order. Then he just… stopped. And Kristin Lee Kelly popped out to sing her Mark’s mom voicemail. And I was like “oh no… that’s so nice they’re letting her sing her voicemail.”

But it wasn’t them being nice. Because right then, right out of the blue – the show started. And didn’t stop. And I didn’t really realize what was happening until they got to “Rent” and I was like “oh my god – they’re pretty much doing the whole show” (this of course inspired a fresh round of crying)

“Rent” was amazing. Other than the fact that Adam FORGOT an entire line to the song (with Daphne and Idina screaming it at him and laughing – a theme for the evening) but they were sort of trying to “do” the song with choreography.

That would have been fine if it hadn’t been for two things. First, their obviously limited rehearsal time. And second, the fact that Idina was NEVER meant to race around the stage during “Rent”. They’d be in their little clump center stage, and then the clump would relocate upstage left, and IDINA would be LEFT by herself standing there for a while before realizing that the entire group had moved. Then she’d go racing over in her heels, sort of akin to that walk she does in the Rent movie when she’s in the catsuit trying to keep up with Anthony. She was none too graceful about it, and actually slammed into Daphne at one point (causing more Daphne/Idina hysterics)

Wilson’s voice during “You Ok Honey” was so pure, I’m not sure I’ll be able to go back to other Angels – seriously. He was beautiful. Just gorgeous. And so much better than I remembered.

I can’t talk about “One Song Glory” without talking about how moving it was to SEE the cast onstage in chairs watching everybody else perform. And this was one of the places where that was important. Not only was this the most beautiful, powerful rendition of “Glory” I’d ever witnessed (and he didn’t forget the words) but for some reason, Idina was crying her EYES out the whole time. And that, of course, moved me to further tears.

“Light My Candle” – without saying anything libelous, I’ll say that Daphne and Adam are PROBLEMATICALLY sexually attracted to one another onstage. Watching them sing that song was borderline inappropriate. Daphne was out to prove that she could take Rosario down, and she proved it. Moments of note were when she said “I’m 19, but I’m old for my age” and Idina let out this inappropriately loud laugh – that was amazing. Then, after she said, “they say that I have the best ass below 14th street” and Adam summarily agreed, she walked over to Idina and gave her a high five. Clearly good asses are a centerpiece of their friendship.

“Today 4 U” – Thanks Wilson, I’ll never like anybody else doing that song, ever. You suck. He came out in FULL ANGEL garb and makeup (glitter lipstick included) and when props failed him (his chair was missing) he simply used that as another chance to jump from a flat stand onto the table AGAIN at the end of the song. The audience went CRAZY. He almost couldn’t finish doing anything without the audience erupting into wild screams. That man has infinite range. And he’s SUCH A SEXY GIRL.

“You’ll See” – Taye was very relaxed looking and was wearing a pink shirt – I think what was cute about him is that he remembered all his blocking and was just… doing it all around them, that was adorable.

“Tango: Maureen” – Fredi can still rock that *beep* Her and Anthony were ADORABLE and had their whole little tango down entirely – even her dropping him went off really well. This was one of the few places that I noticed “cut” lines – Maureen didn’t call at the end of the song. Went over very well.

“Life Support” – They did it downstage, not up on their platform – most of the show was only sort of blocked. Other than the fact that NOBODY except Kristin Lee Kelly could remember WHEN to say his or her Life Support name (very funny) it went over gorgeously. I love their voices. I honestly wasn’t paying too much attention though because I had caught sight of Mimi kimono – STANDING IN THE RIGHT SPOT. I started smacking my friend's leg and the tears were already welling up in my eyes.

And DAMNED if the lights didn’t go off, the music start blaring, and the spot go up on DAPHNE, sporting her kimono and dancing her butt off up on the top level section. THAT was the loudest screams heard all night – we had all come to worship at the church of Daphne, and she had CLEARLY spent the last few months making sure that we could all tell Rosario where to shove it.

She was ON the poles. The poles are DANGEROUS and I was sure she wouldn't get on them, but she DID. She can STILL touch her head to the top pole by bending backwards and standing on it. She can STILL swing through and go into a split while screaming “MEOW – HA!” – She came down to the first part of the stairwell for the bridge (the “in the evening” part) – she swung WAY out, slammed back in, sat down to sing it – and with this hard, fiery look in her eyes – yanked her arm out to do the part where she slaps her veins and screamed “and all the scars of the NEVERSON BABIES * slap slap * DIEEEE!”

The noise was almost PAINFUL the audience was so out of control by that point. People were crying. I was like… sobbing hysterically. It was her big middle finger and we took it, we ate it up, we love her more.

Too bad I was already worked up to a point of near passing out by the time they got to my FAVORITE SONG – Another Day. I won’t go into it, but it’s the clearest thing I remember about the first time I saw Rent in the summer of 1996 – that song, everything about it, everything about how it made me feel and how much I cried like a bitch during it.

I LOVE her voice on that song. I love ADAM’S voice on that song. And damned if it wasn’t borderline like watching porn watching them almost touch one another. I’m sorry just… yeah. They’re a sexy pair. I should probably just preface every song on here with “yeah, and then I cried” because I did. A LOT. I thought I was going to black out during “Another Day” it made me so happy.

“Will I?” – Anthony started off by saying that Gilles wasn’t here because his wife had a baby this morning. Wilson sang his solo. It was BEAUTIFUL. I was ok with that totally. Then we moved into a little abbreviated homeless lady action (let me tell you, that’s messed up to hear Gwen do it, it’s like twilight zone from the CD)

“Santa Fe” – VERY cute. Jesse was twirling all OVER the place without his subway poles… though he almost fell over once or twice. I think the cutest thing was that the whole cast looked so happy watching Jesse dance around and sing it – Idina got really into it and was singing backup really loudly – that was so cute, she was going “ahhh, ahhh, ahhh… SANTA FE!” and she did the “gain, gain, gain” thing.

“I’ll Cover You” – Wilson took his Santa outfit off after he finished Today 4 U, so he was back in his normal clothes. And do you want to know something? This song is about 50 times more beautiful when Wilson and Jesse are just standing there in street clothes. It was amazing. They were SO sincere with each other. The only mishap is that Wilson was REALLY into the twirling and dancing, and not only did they almost fall off the table, but at the part where they “spin around” holding hands they did it really fast and Jesse screamed “OH *beep* Oh, and their kiss was amazing.

“We’re Ok” – Fredi totally wheeled out her phone and did this thing. She STILL has it down. Her cell phone kept closing on her but she was GREAT going back and forth, and very funny. She got a huge audience response.

“Christmas Bells” – I was SO SHOCKED that they did this song. Not only that, but they all still knew all the words. I think it was a bit abbreviated (which honestly would have made it harder – the “follow the man” part was cut) but there they all were, singing all their parts – Taye standing on a chair booming out “chestnuts roasting on an open fire, chestnuts roasting on an open fire” while Adam and Daphne are doing the “let’s not hold hands yet” “is that a warning?” part (MY FAVORITE PART OF THE SHOW OMG)

I truly believe they did that song just so Idina could “ride in” on her motorcycle. Which clearly pleased her, she looked happy as *beep* when she shook out her hair and flashed the audience a toothy grin.

She was armed, cowbell and all, and was all ready for a smooth, planned out performance. She even walked over to Taye (beckoning the follow spot to come with her) and showed him her ass (covered) while she was talking about Benny.

And then she flubbed a line. And then in typical Idina fashion was like “oh my GOD and I was trying to be SO COOL!” – it was hysterical. But it was all good, she got right back on her cow, did some amazing MOO’s, got the LOUDEST moo session I’d ever heard out of an audience, and seemed pleased.

La Vie Boheme – or “oh my god, nothing can be this funny” – for all the line flubbing and script shuffling that was done during this performance, NOT ONE OF THEM has forgotten any of the many words to this song. Hell, they even all know the dance. Well, except Idina (why is this a recurring theme?) she KNEW it alright, but she kept having to look at the other people to see which hand motion came next, and she was cracking up every time she guessed one wrong.

Anthony was SO full of energy that he almost slid off the end of the table onto Idina while he was dancing. And what a dance it was. Everybody just started making stuff up to do if they couldn’t remember their original choreography – though Kristin Lee Kelly knew every freaking step for hers, and even got a handle on Idina to give her a big old kiss. AIKO is ADORABLE – she was wearing a SUIT for most of the show (it was pink) and baby she pulled that suit jacket right off when the song started and damned if she didn’t have her PINK FUZZY BRA on, and she was READY TO RIDE. That song had so much energy.

Nothing was as energetic as when Anthony looked pointedly at Adam and Daphne at the end of the song and did his speech (you know, the Christmas tree going up in flames… blah blah… and then he said “oblivious, Mimi and Roger share a small, lovely, kiss)

Ok instead of being on the upper level per usual they were downstage right in front of me. And there was nothing small about that. It went on for so long, and with such amazing intensity, that people were starting to talk. And then like, they finished the song… STILL KISSING. Lights out… STILL KISSING. It was THE SEXIEST make out session I’ve ever seen.

When it ended – the bizarrely intermissionless (but LONG) show kept going – they just rode right into Happy New Year. (With a hysterical “I’m giving up my vices” “Really?” “Yeah”)

Happy New Year = NOBODY could remember their words. But that was ok; Adam had a script page with him. And when he felt like he had a handle on it, he balled it up and chucked it at the crowd. Idina NEEDED a script page, as she totally missed the “family tree’s got deep roots” line while she was moving a chair (too much multitasking for her)

Take Me Or Leave Me – I don’t think I need to tell you guys how sexy this was, so I won’t. Idina and Fredi have awesome chemistry – they’re very comfortable with touching each other and you can tell they get along really well – they were just AMAZING and Fredi really added some new notes that changed it up a lot. Idina is getting really flexible… she did this thing on the table when she was like “don’t you want your girl HOT?” that was…awesome.

Without You – This song is one of the many reasons I love Daphne. She sings it SO RAW, and she LAID into it last night. They had that choreographed like usual with the three tables, Idina downstage away from Fredi in her chair that she takes with her at the end of TMOLM. When Daphne moved off the center table so that Jesse could move Wilson to it, she went straight to Idina and sang a lot of the song with her hands in Idina’s hair. I thought Idina was going to start crying all up over again, but she didn’t her face just sort of crumpled up. Then Daphne went to go sit with Adam like usual. It was a really odd moment but it was inexplicably the most beautiful, loving thing I’d ever seen onstage. And of course it made me cry. Duh.

Contact. Anthony said something REALLY odd to intro the song like “It’s July and things are heating up” (WTF) and I was like “NO” kind of loud (we didn’t think they’d do the song)

But indeed, they did. Holding scripts and standing in a clump center stage, they moaned and slapped their way through the entire number. I don’t know what this says about Idina but she was the only one not really using the script besides Daphne and was having an amazing time screaming her lines at Jesse. The look on her face as she yells “YOU ANIMAL” is priceless, and something I never thought I’d witness.

Wilson did his table dance at the end… it was BRILLIANT.

“I’ll Cover You: Reprise” – aka the train wreck of sobbing. Audience: crying. Cast: Crying. Jesse: Giving the performance of his life. Can’t say anything more than that.

“Halloween” – they cut like… the first bit off the song that he’d sung at the beginning but the rest of it was there. It was BEAUTIFUL seeing him wield his camera like that.

“Goodbye Love” – ok first of all, the fight at the beginning, I don’t know what was up with them but Jesse was crying really hard, and Idina was burning holes in things with her eyes she was so intense when she was like “Who says that you have any say in who she says things to at all?” and then “WHO SAID I WAS TALKING TO YOU?” The whole thing was uncomfortably real. Jesse was crying so hard when he said; “I can’t believe this family must die” and then Idina and Fredi were crying all over each other when they had to kiss and Fredi “bit” her tongue. It was one of the most intensely acted things I’ve ever seen and like… they weren’t really in costume or doing blocking, it was just crazy and I think they all had a lot of personal emotions tied up in that scene.

ACTUAL Goodbye Love – Yeah, this song was written for Daphne to do. She’s great at it. She was crying and her voice was cracking and it was just… amazing.

WHAT YOU OWN – personally, one of the HIGH points of the evening. They are SO GOOD at this song it’s stupid. I got happy when they wheeled the phone onstage (we hate how in the movie he doesn’t actually CALL Alexi) and those two were just in FINE vocal form. That was almost too much manliness to behold. Can I say that Adam was especially hot last night? Yes? Ok he was.

They did the voicemail where all the parents are on the phone. That was… really pretty and touching for some reason. And I love Kristin Lee Kelly dammit.

I can’t really talk about the Finale without tearing up. Poor Anthony couldn’t get the projector to work and he had to keep going and talking about the video like it was running – he and Adam started laughing when the power went out and they had to talk about maybe not screening the video. They cut some dialogue; I think right after the “food emporium” line where Jesse said ANGEL - Idina came racing out to sing “Mark! Roger! Anyone! Help!” Fredi can still completely tote Daphne around by herself. She’s tiny.

Here’s the point where I say that if you don’t think that Adam Pascal can act, you can just shove it because you clearly haven’t seen him lately. That rendition of “Your Eyes” may have just raised the bar ENTIRELY too high for other Rogers. He was openly weeping. And yet beautifully singing the song. People onstage were crying… Idina totally just went to hide on Fredi pretty early on. Anthony was also a little emotional.

Finale B is a blur, sorry I don’t remember anything about it but I was HYSTERICAL like, I thought I was going to have to be sedated. I was going along ok until they started showing the video – and they SHOWED the video that they used to show when the OBC was… I mean… it was the same video I saw that summer, the two times I saw Rent back then. And I just LOST it they looked SO… I don’t know. I was out of control.

I also have almost zero memories of the Seasons of Love thing at the end… other than it was like 10 minutes of Seasons of Love, and the OBC started it, and moved to the upstage wall, and THEN the current cast lined up in the front and sang it, then they moved to the platform, and then my JESUS everybody practically who had ever been in Rent came out and Will Chase was right in front of me and I was spazzing because he’s so hot. The arrangement was beautiful. There was just lots of clapping and crying and hysterics and then it was over.

Adam like.... fell on the table during Light My Candle.

He's really disgustingly clumsy. I love it.

I'm still in awe of what a f*cking powerhouse Daphne is, and what it was like to see her up there on those poles, or Wilson emerge from those red lights in FULL COSTUME.

I'm glad they started with Seasons of Love. Since there was no intermission, it kind of made sense, plus... they HAD to start with it.

I think I'll post something a little bit more full and cohesive later, but I'll probably just post it in here. I think I'm going to lay low for a little while.

Aren't they selling the entire house worth of seats for $20 for the regular performance tonight? I think that's kind of nice... it isn't even remotely the same as seeing the OBC perform in a benefit, but I'm happy that they're doing something for the people who couldn't afford tickets and didn't have luck with the lottery yesterday.

Did you all see the post on the main board (WOW thread) about how the only rehearsal they had was yesterday, and it started out to just be a concert but somehow turned into doing most of the show? He also said it was mostly blocking rehearsals, and they didn't actually sing together again until the show itself. Pretty amazing, if true.

A lot of the out-of-character moments were adorable, though part of me does wish a little that they were more in character the whole time; though to ask them to REALLY go back like that is a lot.

I'm really, really glad they decided to do what they did. It was like a shortened performance of the show; lighting cues were the same and everything. I think a lot of people probably would've been disappointed if they just stood around and sang.

Get your work done, and when you have a little time, tell us all about it. Even though I've seen some very detailed reviews, I'm still looking forward to hearing what you have to say after you've had a little more chance to process it.

By the way, it occurred to me that you didn't get a chance to say goodbye to Adam because this isn't "goodbye," and you'll be seeing him again soon. (You can always count on me to be the Pollyanna.)

Well, good authority says he'll be back. Whether that's just comfort or if it's eventual truth, I don't know, but we'll see. I can't really get myself to comprehend "forever" in any sense; but I don't logically think this is *forever*.

With regards to not getting to see him, I guess in some ways it was for the best, because now my last memories of spending time face-to-face with him are not ones that include security guards yelling at you about pictures, or people jumping over you to get something signed. The last image of have of interacting with him is a large, fairly quiet room, a big, gorgeous grin, and an actual human conversation. That's what I wanted, isn't it? (And also, being that the night was this cathartic unloading of SO MANY different emotions, I probably would've lost it when I saw him. Honestly, how would he have logically dealt with that?)

I'm glad to hear you've got some good authority on that. re: The Official Adam Pascal Love Thread, part nine

Adam probably had a whole lot of his own emotions to deal with too, so maybe anyone else's would have been too much.

Yeah. If I was teary and said I'd miss him, it's just like.... I know it's silly on its own, so what would he have said to that? I wouldn't want to leave things on an awkward note. And I'm really not his responsibility; he didn't need to deal with that. I also know that he knows what he needs to, spoken or unspoken. I feel like I owed it to him to look him in the eyes and tell him I think he's [insert positive term], but he knows.
