The party was f*cking surreal. I can't even list out all the people I saw that I recognized. Seeing Raúl Esparza fangirl while talking to Sarah Jessica Parker was definitely a highlight.
Soon after I got there, I walked up to the bar to get a drink and turned to my right and Daphne was standing right next to me talking to Al Larson. She was sooooo ridiculously sweet, especially since I kind of hung back and waited to approach her until she was finished talking to her husband (technically, I was still waiting for my drink, but I didn't bother explaining that).
I got a kiss from Wilson Cruz, a lecture on safe sex from Victoria Leacock, and a brief interaction with Raúl (I just said congratulations on Company and good luck, and he thanked me profusely). I made Timothy Britton Parker laugh and he told me I "had" to see Julia in Wicked. I talked to Rodney off and on all night and he kept introducing me to people. By 1am, Katt and I were in the former VIP section that they were just letting everyone in at that point, listening Rodney joke about being the token Asian and Matt McCollum (Jonathan's nephew) talking about being in his school's production of Chicago. And by the end of the night, I think almost everyone was a little drunk (even Rodney, the coffee made him tipsy ).
It was just like a dream. Not in a "dream come true" sense, but in a "this is so unreal, it HAS to be a dream" way. I just still can't believe it all happened to me. I opened my poster earlier to look at all the autographs and I squealed. It was just far and beyond anything I would have dreamed about.
I found some really good pictures, if anyone is interested. From LJ ---> link to someone's webshots account:

Heh, picture number 78, with Rodney talking to Anthony- Katt and I were standing a few feet to the right of where the picture was taken from at the time, but then Anthony disappeared when we weren't looking, so we didn't get to talk to him until later, but that was cool.
Glad someone has a lot of pictures from the party, it really was great. I just was having more fun talking to people and only ended up taking 2 pictures all night.
I still love the idea of Raul "fangirling," hell, not even "fanboying."
ha.
Sorry for the threadjack, but I have the world's biggest problem right now. I think I may have just gotten my brother's roommate to go to Prom with me. The problem is our Prom is a week from friday and I don't know if my school is still selling tickets or not! I really want to go, but I don't know if I can.
The after party sounds like it was a lot of fun.
Hee. The 'fangirling' thing amuses me a lot. As does the threesome.
ROTFL about Rodney getting tipsy from coffee!
I'm glad you got to talk to Raul again
Sounds like a GREAT time! You got more autographs at the party?
Kind of a random question, I'm not sure it makes sense, but I am curious as to like...the breakdown of fans vs. people in Rent and other friends/celebrities. Did everyone mingle like you couldn't tell boundaries? Were their obvious lines with fans getting autographs and stuff and friends and those in RENT and I guess VIPs having more convos? I guess, I'm just intrigued by the fact that almost everyone there got to go...people involved with the event, the famous people, friends, and fans...most of the fans is rare so that's why I'm curious.
Heh. That person has a picture captioned as being Michael Greif, the director of Rent, but it's a picture of Jimmy Nederlander and Allan Gordon.
Yeah, it was like that. I mean, obviously cast members and VIPs were talking to each other because they knew each other, but you could walk right up to the table where the Larsons were sitting and I was standing like 3 feet away from Sarah Jessica Parker (didn't say anything, but I just watched; she looked beautiful in person and was so nice to everyone- she wouldn't even sign autographs for people because she said that night wasn't about her). I mean, there was the "VIP section" in the one area, just because it had a guard at the top of the steps. I didn't try to go up there earlier, but it didn't seem like that much of a problem. Anthony finally collapsed in a chair and started shoveling food into his mouth, but he still talked to people that came up to him. Katt and I were special, he came to us to talk.
Cast members were *everywhere* and it was so easy to just walk up to them and start talking. I mean, I was polite enough to wait until they were finished talking to people, but there wasn't a sectioned off area that no one could pass into where all the VIPs hung out. They were in the middle of all the action and the only kind of boundaries were out of social politeness and not interrupting people.
I have no idea what to make of this, but I'm not going to get too excited. It's probably not true, but I found it interesting.
Interesting
That's really cool and special that the fans could actually mingle with the cast members. Thanks for posting your stories with those of us who couldn't be there.
ETA: That would be totally awesome if this was on Pay-Per-View! ... but not getting my hopes up.
So RENT 10 might be on pay-per-view? Let's pray...

Anthony was SO tired by the end of the night. He was talking to us, and he looked like he could barely stand up. He didn't get left alone really until he sat down at the table. He was surrounded by fans all night.
There weren't really lines for autographs or anything. It was all just kind of intermixed. Although, you couldn't talk to Wilson because he had a bodyguard. I felt bad for him when he was leaving the theater, because fans followed him down the street.
Seriously? Holy sh*t...

I don't see how it could be on pay-per-view. Wouldn't all of those copyright rules still apply?

When Daphne came out of the theater, she was kind of mobbed, and she got away pretty quickly. Wilson signed for a bit, and then tried to walk away, but people were following him. Idina and Taye left pretty quickly and didn't go to the party.

Nothing on the pay-per-view site.
I guess it COULD happen, since it's not the show itself, but a one-time only thing. I dunno.
I just saw elsewhere what Anthony told someone about them not being able to sell a video of the show because of Sony's copyright. That sounds like the truth, unfortunately.
