Alex, I usually just hang up on them (sorry, C&L!).
I'm so borrrred.
I'm asking my music teacher for a recommendation, although I'm kind of afraid to. I was unintentionally mean to him this morning. he asked for everyone to help him, and I said "no." Only I didn't realize how loud I said it until my friend across the room commented on how much of a b*tch I was for saying that.
EDIT: Hi Alex! I didn't notice that it was you.
The people I worked with last summer all have connections in various places, and since my experience is minimal, hopefully they can pull some strings if need be. I have other connections, but I feel awkward using them.

heh..HI!
yea..I usually hang up too, or just say "wrong number"
..is anyone familiar with the "Seinfeld" response? hah..I tried that once..the person was just confused.
What's the Seinfeld response?
Heh, I loved that part of Seinfeld. It's so true.
The guy I got couldn't pronounce Syracuse. I nearly hung up on him then. He was definitely a native English speaker, there is no excuse for that.

Good luck to you guys on your applications. I hate asking for reccomendations, too; I always feel awkward asking people to write them.
I don't know the Seinfeild response.
Neither do I.
Paraphrased Seinfeld response:
Jerry: This isn't a good time.
Telemarketer: When would be a good time to call back, sir?
Jerry: I have an idea, why don't you give me your home number and I'll call you back later?
Telemarketer: Umm, we're not allowed to do that.
Jerry: Oh, I guess because you don't want strangers calling you at home.
Telemarketer: Umm, no.
Jerry: Well, now you know how I feel.

it might sound dumb when I type it..*thinks*
TM(telemarketer): Hello, would you be interested in blah blah blah?
Jerry: Oh no, sorry, I'm busy right now. Can I call you back later at home?
TM: um, no, we are not allowed to do that.
Jerry: Why you don't like people calling you at home?
TM: no
Jerry: Well now you know how I feel! *hangsup*
...it goes something like that. It's much more funny on the show

My sister and I used to go "NOOOO DAY BUT TODAAAAAY" or just some random line from a musical when we'd answer telemarketing calls. It's nicer than "shut the f**k up".

I'm always tempted to answer the phone in a foreign language. Maybe that would freak out a telemarketer.
Tee hee. I have varied responses. One popular one is "Kthanks bye!" before they say anyhting.

haha skittles. It's about the same thing
hehehe
I just hang up.
I have to use that. Although, since we registered our phone on the DNC list, the telemarketers have basically stayed away.

Am I the only one here that's actually polite to telemarketers? I know they're annoying but I don't want to be rude.

I always say "no, thanks" before I burst into song, if we want to talk about manners ...
But seriously, they don't really care either way. Saying "kthnxbai" or just hanging up isn't even the beginning of "rude behavior" when it comes to the stories I've heard.
The only time anyone in my family ever flipped out on a telemarketer was shortly after my dad died of lung cancer. We got a call on a survey from Marlboro or somesuch, and the woman at the end asked for my father. My mom replied "Sorry, but he died from lung cancer, which your f**king cigarettes give other people. Thanks a lot for helping the cause, bye."
She felt horrible about it later - the woman as just doing her job, after all. But, you know ... bad timing.
Congrats about the cruise! Lucky!
YAY! Cruises are awesome. Congrats.

I don't mean that yall are rude, I just try to be polite to them, even if they say our last name wrong, which they aways do.
I hate it when they pronouce my last name wrong. It isn't that compilcated. I will ussually say 'no thanks' before hanging up.

My dad entered some contest and they just called saying we won a free cruise either from Miami or California. It's only 3 days..but WOOHOO
I always just hang up on telemarketers. When I was younger, though, my uncle would always call the house pretending to be a telemarketer, which was pretty funny. Then one day, a telemarketer called and my mom thought it was my uncle pretending to be a telemarketer. Now that was really funny
Ehh, internships. Unfortunately for me, the fields where I have connections and the field I'm interested in don't really overlap.
That's awesome, Alex! What cruise line is it?
