Ok. I liked the Rent movie as much as the next person in this thread, but I'm going to hope Columbus was just being facetious with his "MY ONE REGRET IS THE MUTE POSTERS!" line.

Same here.
Of course, he used the "one regret" line at least twice, didn't he? The other was for Mrs. Jefferson's costume.

Anyone else wet themselves when they heard about the alternet to "Merry X-Mas Bitches" that Jesse used (I don't want to give it away to those who haven't seen it yet)?

A thought from the documentary before I'm off to see alternative scenes and commentary...

Cheyenne, the conversation was basically her going "Oh, do you like Adam Pascal? Isn't he hot?!" and "Why, yes he is, and do you post on broadwayworld.com" and nothing too serious, but it was a nice way to meet someone.
And Shiksa, I love that part of the commentary. I also love what, according to the commentary, Jessie called Anthony after the "Don't get your ass kicked this time" line.

Hi all! I just got my DVD, but my Circuit City said they never got the calendars. Did any of you snag a calendar?
Watching the deleted scenes right now. I gotta disagree with Chris Columbus. I think putting them in would have been fantastic. Even the ones dealing with the dog. :)
OH - and did you look at the special features dvd? Just the disc. Look at the picture carefully. What do you notice?

what to notice about the second disk? The image is reversed. I noticed it as soon as i saw it, I was like what? Which really doesn't make sense, but I was tired.

So...alternative ending...I liked it, but I agree with Adam's point that it just wouldn't be the same...
As a preface, I think Goodbye Love is a turning point in the musical for all the characters, so its omission has always bothered me. I thought it was beautiful and heartbreaking, and I miss it. That's all I'll say...

Amber, I am just watching the alternate ending with commentary as I sit here ... I agree. It gave me goosebumps, and being someone who knows the show inside and out I like it to have, but with a standard audience I completly understand Adam's opinion. I'm glad they did it the way they did. When "Finale B" started the first time I saw it in the theater, all I could think about is "How are they going to do the Angel thing? He can't come back in a movie!" So yes, I am pleased with the different ending. I still miss Goodbye Love.

Yeah, I agree, the alternate ending made me happy and sad and all the right emotions, but I agree with Adam. I really respect a lot of Columbus' desicions, but I think that Goodbye Love with the Mark/Roger fight should have been in there. Maybe just take out the whole Benny paying for the funeral thing, and just start it with Mark coming home? I also really like that scene between Roger and Benny, I think that that, along with the Mark/Roger fight, would have helped non-RentHeads understand Benny and Mark better- because I know a lot of people who just did not get those characters.

While it was nice to see the alternate ending, it just didn't work for me. I felt that the ending that actually made it into the movie was a homage to the stage show that also fit the film medium, and the last shot was just haunting. I also think that Benny paying for Angel's funeral should have been in the movie, because it goes a long way towards humanizing Benny, who really gets the short end of the stick in the movie.

Yeah, it was sad to see that most cut scenes developed the Benny character. I had the OBCR memorized before I saw the show for the first time, but I was dumb and totally missed the connection with the dog until the "I only feel it's fair to tell you ..." line. Here's me going OOOOhhhhh while everyone else just gave me the "duh" look. :)

So I've just finished around 5 straight hours of Rent. The commentary was brilliant, except for Chris Columbus, he got kinda boring. I was disappointed that we still don't get the full Mark/Roger fight. I loved the documentary, it made me cry, a lot, especially Jesse L. Martin.
I'm going to make a guess about Adam's eyebrows. I think this may be in between Cabaret and Aida. I don't know when the contracts were signed for Rent, but I remember him saying how he had to dye his hair and then shave it, and then dye it again. And his eyebrows seem to be a more natural colour. Sorry if this has been addressed, I didn't feel like reading everything I missed.

Ooo, I also wanted to say that I really loved the menu screen, with all the blocks and how it showed each character.

The menus are absolutely gorgeous. I wish there were some way to make that my screensaver.

Adam's noises during the beginning of Out Tonight...questionable...ha...
I'm glad Adam asked about April's suicide thing (I don't think I agree...I do think it changes the circumstances a little). But now we know...

Was anyone else annoyed with the Sony ads during the documentary. Jonathan was obviously influenced by Hair, but was it necessary to put underneath it "now available on to own DVD from Sony pictures".

Chris's response to Adam's question about why April's suicide wasn't in there kind of bugged me. He just couldn't find a way to fit it in? Much like how Chris later said something to the effect that he wished there had been more of Taye in the movie. Hello? You're the director, and you kinda sorta cut quite a few scenes his character was in!
And yeah, you just have to love how Adam felt the need to go into such detail about how he threw up the day they were filming that part of Another Day, although I did feel bad for him - nausea plus leaning over on staircases is not a good combination.

Ok i just watched the deleted scenes, and I still disagree with Columbus, I would have rather still had the rest of Goodbye Love and Halloween. I would have also liked the two Benny scenes, because he ends up looking like a complete jackass which he isn't.
I agree with those that have said that the alternate ending would have worked for the people like us, who were already fans of the stage show. But the ending they used was great too.
Some of Columbus' agruments for cuts ect really annoyed me.
