"he was out in LA filming something for the WB"
OMG. I live about 3 feet from all the WB buildings and stuff. Is he still here?
Wow, I'm really glad to hear about that possible guest spot that we won't be spreading around just yet. And I'm still really wondering about what the WB thing is.
I hear you about Columbus being vague about the stage show, but I think it may just be that he's been so immersed in the film that he just forgot about it. When a director is in the midst of making a movie, he lives it 24 hours a day. It becomes all-encompassing. I'm inclined to cut him some slack over that.
During the commentary I was reminded that Adam majored in film, TV and radio production in college, the way he talked about master shots and long lenses. Actually, that could be when he saw the documentary about Saturday Night Fever too.
The movie was made at that point Chloe. Audiences had already seen it.
Of course, CS, but what I'm saying is that making the movie had wiped out the stage show in his mind - Rent now exists for him mainly as the movie because he lived and breathed it for a year.
ETA: I say this because I work in sound post-production, which is less than a quarter of the total time spent on a movie. My involvement is much less intense, yet I end up replaying bit of dialog or score over and over in my head, even having dreams about whatever I'm working on. It really takes over.

I'm not talking about Chris's DVD commentary at this point. I've ranted to a few people here over AIM, so since we're pretty much on the same page, there's no use in me re-hashing the same arguments.
*sigh*
*taps fingers waiting for scenes to be spliced in and available for download*
I get what you're saying Chloe. But at times I feel like this was how he thought the whole time.
*waits patiently for her DVD, which is back in New York*
I'm sorry to be stirring up old arguments. I haven't had a chance to get caught up with the thread yet.
Don't feel bad, Chloe. I didn't have time to get caught up with the LAST thread before this one came. I'm beyond lost.

Over two-thirds done with my music history cards! Woot!
No one's spliced in GL (and the other scenes) yet? I'm surprised...didn't we take bets on how short it'd take?
No worries, I haven't had a Columbus argument since yesterday. And since I'm getting Anthony's book tomorrow I need something to b*tch about.

It WAS almost available on CB, but the thread got locked, heh.
Oh, I didn't mean I didn't want anyone else talking about it Chloe, I just was saying that even though I had watched it at this point, I wasn't going to be commenting on it.

What "little map" did Colombus find helpful? I must've missed that.
But yeah, I agree that it was very strange that Colombus didn't seem to know where most of the songs were set in the play; etc.

You know the relationship map/chart/whatever you want to call it thing that connects the characters in the playbill/program/etc?
That. Haha
I think he was talking about the chart in the program which shows the main characters' relationships, and how since that wouldn't be available to people seeing the movie, he hoped to make them clearer than they were in the show.
That's not really complicated...to me at least...
I don't find that at all complicated.
Angel and Mimi aren't connected. How did Columbus know to make them friends? His brain must've exploded when they told him.
Rosario was the one that told him to do it.
I don't find it complicated either. I think that the Angel/Mimi connection isn't that obvious at the beginning of the show, but it sort of is as it moves on.
I don't know. Like, when the movie was in theatres and everything, I ACCEPTED Columbus' choices, but now that I hear some of his reasons, I'm more upset now.
The relationship aspect of all the characters is not that hard to figure out. *Scratches head*
I love the movie to death. And I'm really pleased with it. I just think that so much more should've been done.

CS, I completely agree.
