Back from seeing the Rent movie on the big (well, medium) screen for the last time.
For some reason, I was colder than everyone else in the city today. I went out in a sweatshirt and a peacoat and I was freezing, but I saw people walking around in just hoodies and they seemed fine.
Sorority bid day was today. Woohoo. My next door neighbors got bids from the same house, so these next few weeks of rush should be tons of fun.

I hate snow.

Am I just stupid and never knew this before, or is there an obvious connection between this sign and the Rent poster? It's from the ACT UP website.
I've never seen that before but there is definitely a connection. The black behind the letters is in the exact same shape as the black background of the Rent logo.
That's really cool.
Even the way the black blocks are set up are the same. If I'm not mistaken, isn't the N block tilted like the D block?
Wow, thats cool.

ETA: Allie beat me! But what I really want to know is which came first. I'm assuming the AIDS one, since this is from ACT UP, which was formed by Larry Kramer in 1987. Hmmmm. Maybe I'll ask...
That's cool! it is exactly the same
That's really cool. They're exactly the same.
I pulled out the Rent Bible to see if it said anything.
It says:
"Spot designed Rent's logo with stencil and black masking tape. It's based on the POST NO BILLS signs that are painted on construction-site walls throughout New York."
ooo that's interesting
My guess is that Rent had the logo first, and even though ACT UP was founded in 1987 - they probably used a different logo at first and are now using the one that Elphie posted. It makes sense for them to want to use that logo specifically, especially since ACT UP comes up in Rent. Although, you would think there would be copyrights on the Rent logo.
Maybe since it's a helpful organization they were willing to share the design. Spread the love. Any publicity is good publicity! :)

It was so weird going out to dinner tonight. There were hardly any cars on the road, there were mounds of pristine snow all over the place, and the first restaurant my roommate and I tried to go to was closed because of the weather.
I have to share this story with you guys. At dinner, my roommate started talking about some anime she had just downloaded and wanted to watch, which got me started on Broadway stuff I've been meaning to watch, like Aida.
Roomie: *makes a face* Oh, I didn't like that show. I saw it the year it opened and my sister and I were laughing the whole time.
Me: Why didn't you like it?
Roomie: Well, the guy in the show, his voice kept cracking...
Me: *is too busy choking on risotto to hear the rest of what Roomie said*
hah. That reminds me. One time I was at TKTS, and it's fun to listen to other peoples' conversations while you're waiting on the line. We were across the street from the Palace at this point, and the people behind me were like "oh, Aida, we saw that!" And someone with them says that they liked it, but that they didn't really like the guy in it because he "wasn't the most attractive guy ever, and he really just wasn't that good." I turned around and gave them this look, and my mom was like "ummm.... " and tried to distract me and stop me from hurting them.
Em, let's make ourselves happy and pretend they saw it on an understudy day. :)
I was just flipping channels - and on Simpsons Maggie has chicken pox and Homer is organizing a chicken pox party. How funny that we just talked about those. :)

I almost set my apartment on fire again, you guys! With a tea light! We're not supposed to have candles or anything, but I figured that my tart warmer was safe, because it was just a tea light, and they pretty much go out all by themselves in a short amount of time. Well, I was wrong. Good thing it was right by my balcony door! I threw it out there and dumped a big glass of water on it.
Yikes, Allie! I'm glad you were able to put it out.
BG thats hilarious!

So, I saw my school's production of The Sound of Music. It was pretty awful, but I'm not sure if it's because it was truly bad or I just don't care for the music much in the first place. I suppose there were a couple stand-out cast members, but listening to Maria's voice has never proved so painful. However, I DID manage to make it through "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?" with only a slight smirk.
Anyone else voting in that Broadway's 100 Hottest Hotties contest thingie?
XD I'm impressed SD.
