I definitely know where you're coming from with that, Fantab. Last year I was in my school's only freshman dorm that didn't require a meal plan, but my parents made me get one anyway. I took the smallest plan available (10 meals per week and 250 declining dollars), maybe used 3 or 4 meals a week, and wound up having to buy random crap like mugs and gift baskets from Starbucks at the end of the semester to get rid of the declining dollars.
heh..my triple post a few pages back was pretty impresive
censoring the commentary? Arn't they usually unrated?
*hugs* sorry Fantab
SD~ Hee, that's a good method. If you need any help, let me know. I think protists are cool. Especially diatoms. They're just SO gorgeous.
Mmm, biology. I need to read for genetics, which I don't mind, but lately I haven't felt like doing anything. I need to snap out of this. Updated On: 2/13/06 at 10:13 PM
I don't want to write my essays.
Same, I just want to not do any work. I'm in vacation mode. 4 dayssss
yayy 4 days! then rent
That makes absolutely no sense, Jessica.... what logic do they have for putting juniors as the lowest priority?
They want to give the sophomores top priority because they're still not as acclimated to the city as upperclassmen are and were all kept really close to campus with freshman housing. Since most people put the dorms that are in the Union Square area (about 10-15 minutes from campus) as their top choices, the reasoning is that most sophomores will end up relatively close to campus and other people in their year. I'm not sure exactly why seniors still have higher priority than juniors, but perhaps they figure that a lot of people will go into off-campus housing in junior year if they're assigned to a dorm that's really far from campus, so there won't be as many seniors in the lottery as there will be juniors and their requests will be easier to fill. No matter what the reasoning is, I was lowest priority this past year under the old system and will be lowest priority again this year under the new system

Elphie: Heh, at least someone's enthusiastic about them. Um... do you know the protective adaptations of foraminiferans, actinopods, and flagellates? Only if you know off the top of your head... I don't want to make you go searching!
I can't believe I asked that in this thread! I'd post a photo in an attempt to make it up to everyone, but I'm pretty sure you've seen them all. Heh.
Yea, our meal plan is just another thing that's kind of not very well thought out. With the meal plan I have - assuming I eat all my meals (which I don't) each meal is approximately $16. The meals are so not worth $16. And we really don't have a declining dollar card - I have points on a card, but they can only be used in 2 places, one of which basically just sells coffee, and the other which is closed on weekends and only open until 4 on weekdays.
Just popping in to say hi.. You guys are flying through these threads.. By the time I get to stop by again you will be on 7 or 8...

Fantab, I know I've already asked you this, but what college do you attend? I forgot. The talk of meal plans and declining dollars (or whatever they're called) scares me! I just like the idea of going somewhere and paying a few dollars for food.
Jessica, I'm really sorry to hear about how NYU screwed you over. Um... at least the dorms that are far away from campus are supposed to be pretty nice?
I go to Barnard.
oh, you and emcee go to the same college.

Cool. :) I totally have an inferiority complex to Columbia/Barnard already. Heh.
Aw guys, look at this. Remember that dead Yahoo group I was talking about yesterday? I thought this was a sweet story from someone who met Adam back in 2000/01:
I was SO calm! I'm proud of myself. My friend went over to Adam and said "Do you have time to sign this and take a quick picture?" He was SO sweet and said "Of course." He signed her RENT book, and when I handed him my pic of him with APB, he just kinda blinked and laughed and said "Where did you GET this??" I explained that the last time I'd rushed for RENT, a girl had it in her photo album and we hauled ass to Walgreens to get a color copy made...
Then I asked Sherie to sign my playbill and she grinned at me and said "You guys weren't sitting house right, by chance, were you?" We were. lol. I wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing she knew that was us...
Then Adam took a pic with us and I thanked him and as we were leaving my mom says ( get this ) "You should see her room... it's like a shrine to you." I almost DIED. Wanted to, anyway... But Adam was so cool about it. He tugged me to him by my coat sleeve and ruffled my hair and said "Aww, don't embarrass her, mom..."
Hey, I smiled after reading it, LOL.

Fantab, $16? That's highway robbery. I think my meal plan last year worked out to less than $10 a meal (which still wasn't worth it).
I just like the idea of going somewhere and paying a few dollars for food.
Heh. I prefer the idea of going somewhere and getting free food (which pretty much any NYU extracurricular club or activity will have, because nobody would show up otherwise).
Jessica, I'm really sorry to hear about how NYU screwed you over. Um... at least the dorms that are far away from campus are supposed to be pretty nice?
Yeah, the dorms that are way downtown are gorgeous (and spacious!), and I hope I get one of those when I'm living on-campus over the summer. But the idea of not being able to walk to my classes because I'm too far away really upsets me.
That's so cuuuute.
That is the cutest story EVER.
awwwwwwwwwwww. Adam!
*misses*

Well, minus the whole "don't embarass her, Mom" part might be nice. Heh. It's cute, though!
Haha, is this "fangirl minutia"? OH WELL.
Yay, I like that story. Yay for Adam.
