Hehe ... dancing buildings. :)
I was at the library today and browsing through the new titles section when I happened to come across Cybele's book. I checked it out and am making notes. My body has a hard time with all kinds of medicines and foods so I figured why not give it a try! :)
I've tried four or five recipes and they're really good. She has a guide at the beginning for adding back ingredients you don't have a problem with.
I've thought a lot about why Adam appeals so much to the very smart people on this thread, and come to the conclusion that for those of us who live inside our heads a lot, someone who doesn't seem to is extremely refreshing. Or to put it another way, when you think too much, you are attracted to someone who gives the impression he could make you stop thinking at all for a while.

I agree with you, Chloe. Although, as I mentioned to you privately earlier, it's a real pain to have to deal with someone who is very uncensored and a genuinely cruel person. I usually get a authentic sweet vibe from Adam, at least nowadays, which like you said can be very refreshing.
For all that supposed sweetness, though, he's apparently asking $7,000 per "regular" show and $15,000 for the "Vegas show" of sorts. I suppose quite a bit of it goes to cover traveling expenses, the other musicans, and the booking agency/management, but wow, that seems pretty high!
From what others have said, it seems to be more than the norm for college shows, but I don't really know. There isn't any real yardstick other than what the market will bear. Performers have always gotten paid what people are willing to pay them. (I think Elton is charging a million donated to his AIDS foundation for private appearances now.) Of course some are willing to take very little if they think they'll get good exposure or are promoting a project. You're right about the overhead too.
I don't think asking to get paid what he thinks he is worth is a reflection of anything beyond a healthy self-esteem and unwillingness to stint on supporting his family.

Sorry, I probably should have clarified that my comment was largely tongue-in-cheek. I don't actually think he's any worse of a person for asking for what seems like quite a bit for a show. Considering he hasn't really done much for a little while, his family probably needs the money anyway.
And hell, if I could charge even $100,000 for people to listen to me sing, I'd totally do it.
Sorry I didn't catch your tone - now I feel like I wrote a boring lecture for no good reason.
I've been watching Piazza but can't really get into it. Just not my kind of music, I guess.

Haha, don't worry about it. One thing I've always hated about the internet is the lack of inflection.
As a musical theatre fan, I feel like I should be somewhat obligated to give it a try, but I'm too tired at the moment to attempt to get into a new musical. I think I'm going to collapse in a few minutes.
Another hard day at work? Yeah, it's not the kind of fluffy show you can collapse into.

Not really, besides having to wake up at 4. My co-workers were actually pleasant today. That really makes such an incredible difference. I hope your day was good as well.
I don't think I've ever really enjoyed any "fluff" musical theatre shows. It's not that I have an elitism complex at all when it comes to them; I just don't find them too enjoyable. I suppose some would consider Aida somewhat "fluffy," though, and I fully admit that I thoroughly enjoy that show.

Okay, I feel a little better...despite giving the cd a listen and not being amazed, I decided to watch tonight (Katie went to my school, gotta give the girl a few props). I just wasn't like, completely blown away thinking it was a life changing, stunning show. But I'm one of the few it seems...
I really, really liked it, but I can definitely see how it's not the easiest show to get into. I was indifferent to the cast recording for months, and I kept trying to give it a listen and thinking, "Well, it's pretty, but nothing about it really grabs me." And then one day it did, and I looked into the story and found myself really liking it. It was nice to see it performed. :)
But I know a fair number of people who are either indifferent to or thought it was pretty but not very memorable, so you're definitely not alone.
I heard the Piazza OBCR once and wasn't really blown away; like Chloe said, it's just not really my style. Then I saw it in February and had some issues with an understudy's performance, but still didn't really like the music. I mean, it's pretty, but it's more classically operatic than what I usually am drawn to in musicals. Actually, I enjoy the story, just not the music. It's one of the rare shows where I like the book more than the music, heh.
I think Anthony charges $7000 for his reading/signings.

I'm trying to think of a musical where I like the book more than the music itself. I can't seem to think of any!
Me either. For me the music sort of falls between the cracks. It doesn't have the serious beauty of opera or the jazziness and/or soulfulness of pop music. It feels pretty bland to me. I'm not putting down anyone who likes it though. There are plenty of things I like that other people think are bad. If something reaches you emotionally, that's all that matters.

Skittles, if Anthony charges $7,000 to sign books and read an excerpt, I guess Adam's prices aren't as high as I thought anyway.
Chloe, Piazza definitely seems to be one of those love it or hate it shows. I've heard so many people say that it's a snoozefest to them as well, so you're definitely not alone. I only caught one song tonight; I think it was the title song. I guess it was an enjoyable song, but I'm not sure if I could listen to an entire show filled with that type of music more than once.

Yeah, I don't think, as it goes, that's that high -- even though regardless, it is a ton of money. But obviously it's cheaper if he were to just bring Larry than it is to haul out his entire band, people and instruments. And I don't know if those are necessarily figures that he makes up, so much as ones set by the booking agency. I'm fairly sure it's the latter. (That was true with Anthony's booksigning, anyway. In that case, though, it was negotiable, but that's probably because there were negligible travel costs involved.)
I think it's too much money to ask my student activities office for, especially since I have no club affiliation with reasoning for it, but... I kind of want to know I at least gave it a shot.
I had a dream about Adam last night.
What was your dream?
aw, I like Piazza. But I'm a romantic sap, and I think the music is pretty.
I don't remember the context of the dream. I just remember that he was in it. Don't worry, it was clean.
I've seen some of Piazza. The music was pretty.

Because you guys could potentially understand my geeking over it (as opposed to most people)...
Back at the beginning of November my friend went to a special Rent screening and a q&a with the some of the cast...and since I convinced her to go (she'd had no previous knowledge with it), and she loved it, she surprised me by having them sign something for me. Long story short, today in the mail I got three loverly messages from Anthony, Wilson and Jesse!
And I might be smiling like a fool
I found a video of Adam singing at one of the college concerts. He's singing "Glory" and halfway through he forgets the words and he has to ask the audience for help. You have probably already seen it, but in case you haven't, here it is.
Adam forgets words
Yes, that was interesting.

Dancin, I was going to post that the other day. It's cute
Amber: Aww you're so lucky.
Adam is very cute when he forget words. In Rent 10 & the 5th anniversary concert.
