hehe.
ok, poll:
i haven't ever seen the chitty movie, or read the book, or heard the CR. should i watch/read/listen? or should i stay a chitty 'virgin'?
I'd see the movie first. The plot makes less sense in the movie than in the show, but you might as well know what you're getting into. It's so funny, it's like a bad acid trip.

ok, i was just wondering, cause i'd read the novel wicked before i even heard of the musical, so naturally i was comparing the two.
Chitty is far more of a direct adaptation from the movie than Wicked was from the novel. The BOOK version of Chitty is pretty different, though.

Apparently it's a bit darker. Kind of like what happened with Wicked, for the movie, and hence the musical, the more obvious political undertones were removed.
Remember what Raúl said in that interview about the Nazis, etc? That was about the novel.

So it IS less 'you know'.
I love that you speak my language.

nia, we ALL know what you're taking about.
WHY do they make musicals less dark? it annoys me. that's why i think wicked would have been so much better as a play. the music and singing makes it too 'happy'.

I think that if Wicked were to live up to the book's potential, it would need to be written by someone like Sonheim who can handle politics and complex emotions. Bek, most tourists don't want dark and at what it costs to run these things, they need tourist dollars.
Yes, it's less chirpy and annoying.
I LOVE MY CHIRPY ANNOYING CAR! *confesses on knees*
