*edges out from bomb shelter*
It's not something I would normally like, but I do for some reason. It's his mystical Adam powers of greatness at work.

'Isn't it in 'One Night In Bangkok' Adam says "I get my kicks above the waistline sunshine"
Evil Grin!'
HAHA, let me tell you... I never believed him one bit.
Insomniak, I'm not going to get into yet another discussion about the quality of Aida.

I was just saying that you all seemed not too excited to see it again if the sets weren't as good, but earlier you insisted Aida had a lot more to offer than pretty backdrops. Just an observation, QM.
*le sigh*
I'm not getting into another AIDA argument either. It WAS more than big sets. MUCH more. But, the visuals were a big part of it. They weren't obnoxious, nor were they big just to be big. They were gorgeous. They lights weren't bright to blind you; Natahsa didn't win that Tony for nothing.
Anyway - glad you like Model Prisoner.

I just heard two different stories from one person, that's all.
And MP is very good. Why wasn't it advertised more? Adam could've gone outside the audience of musical theatre with it.

is it just me or does emcee's '*le sigh*'s make you laugh? no offense to emcee or anything, but they just make me laugh. ok i'm done being a loser.
haha, I aim to please! No offense taken.

hehe you rock!
Yes, he did many concerts and it was awhile ago. Thats why we are all dying for the new one, its been so long!!
As for the sets, its not that the sets "make it fly" its that its the entire show. I do not want to see the tour because it will be different from the Bway version. I want to preserve my memory of what the "real" version was like. I would just sit there and say, this is not the way its supposed to be. Just how i feel. Hope it clarifies things a bit.

aww! i want to go to an adam concert!! if i did, i would feel bad for the people in front of me. their hearing would be gone by the time it ended.

Who are you refering to, Insomniak? If you are indeed refering to me and as you are so good at observing, maybe you wish to scroll back and see that I never participated in the original 'Aida quality' discussion and therefore never commented if Aida was just more than its sets. Thank you!

"I was sure there was more to AIDA than elaborate sets and that it was great in every other regard, too. Anyway, if a show needs fancy sets to make it fly I don't want to see it at all."
insomniak -- as someone who didn't completely fall in love with the show on first viewing, I can tell you that still, without the big sets, AIDA would have connected with many people. A show is always the cumulative effects of all its components: the score, book, musicians, performers, choreography, sets, and lighting. When I saw it the first time, what really knocked me out was Heather Headley's performance, so much so that I didn't actually pay much attention to the set (except the pool which was very much 'in your face' ). When I returned to see the show multiple times, it was because of Heather and Adam, and because I enjoyed the score. And despite some of the weakness that I thought were present in the book, I thought the story was beautiful overall. I did have a friend who thought the sets were excessive -- and she made that comment only because for some reason she just hates shows with elaborate sets -- but even then she didn't discount the fact that the overall story is beautiful. My suggestion would be to actually see it if you can and decide for yourself -- keeping in mind that differences in performers and lighting and sets may impact perception on the show as a whole.
And yes, Adam did do a lot of concerts to promote MP. Btw... someone might know this (Undiscovered? ) But I know Adam used to do some songs in those concerts that were not in Model Prisoner (I'm not referring to cover versions, of course). From the title list, can you tell if those songs are in Civilian? I only recognize 'tomorrow and the sun'. I was hoping 'mesmerized' or 'apology' would somehow make it, although I realize these were done a couple of years ago, so with all he might have written in the last couple of years, he would have had to make choices on which goes on record, etc. But, still... would have been nice to have those recorded...

I know he did some promo stuff when MP was new, but I wish it had gotten more exposure.
For the last time, I was not judging a show I've never seen, I was repeating what you all said. QM, I'm sorry if I misquoted you. But the people of this thread spent a good deal of bandwith insisting that Aida had a lot more to offer than set and a few pages later several people said they wouldn't want to see the tour because it'd be 'not real' and have sets that weren't as good. My point is, is that if it is indeed true that Aida is an excellent musical that it would not matter if the sets weren't so elaborate because the rest of the show (music, story, actors, ect) would make it worth the admission price. I understand you may be attached to the original broadway version, but the most important aspect of the show- the show itself- (music and book) would not change for the tour.
At any rate, I think it is best that I leave this thread alone.
*sighs again*
It's not that the show wouldn't be good without the same sets For me, at least, it's just that it wouldn't be the same. I hate change. I want to remember it the way that I loved it; I know that's stupid, but that's where I am right now. I hope that makes sense.
Wait just one moment. The name of the thread changed!
