Yay for bumping Adam love!
I just listened to 'Glory' eleven times in a row... I started to cry by the seventh time.
ELEVEN!?!
Good God!
Okay, off I go to do some shopping because I am almost officially on Thanksgiving break! Back later!
About 'Livien' - wasn't it the movie he was going to do when he got the offer to be the closing Emcee for Cabaret? Or was that some other movie?
Yep! Eleven! I had this urge all day to listen to it, and it's been on repeat for the last 45 minutes or so... Now "Your Eyes" is on repeat... I'm being such a loser.

Alright, I'm lost. Were Adam and Patrick supposed to be in a movie or was this Jason Behr supposed to be on broadway?
I also just got Assassins (it's about time I dipped my toes in classical broadway and Sondheim and it looked like a good place to start) and I think Adam might make an interesting Balladeer. Neil Patrick Harris is great, but if they had ever needed a replacement...
'I also just got Assassins (it's about time I dipped my toes in classical broadway and Sondheim and it looked like a good place to start) '
What? So you've never heard any other classics? No Into The Woods? Company? Gypsy? Oh please tell me you've heard Sweeney Todd! Even *I* have the recordings of the mentioned musicals. I've never been to NY, and have only seen one show in my entire life, and I've listened to them...
I think it should be some sort of official Broadway rule that you have to have seen/heard 3 Sondheim musicals before you so much as listen to musicals like Avenue Q or Wicked... however I'm sort of being a hypocrite because Rent was what really got me into theatre...
Anyways sorry for the minor threadjack
edited for stupid spelling errors
I have Assassins, Into the Woods, and West Side Story. Ta da! 3 Sondheims. I really never got into his work. I love WSS, but he only did lyrics to that. I really don't like ITW or Assassins very much.... I prefer more "rock" Broadway pieces, such as the works of ALW and the early Schwartz stuff.
And of course Jonathan Larson. I just wrote an essay on him... such an amazing guy who writes amazing music.
Sorry for another threadjack.
edited because I can't spell
Insomniak - Adam was just about to do a movie when he got the offer the close Cabaret, and so he ditched the movie and went with that instead. And I *think* the movie in question was Livien.
Glad you got Assassins. I know not everybody falls in love with Sondheim, but I love just about all his work. Did you get the original cast or the recent one for Assassins? And weren't you asking about Sweeney Todd a while back? You should definitely check that one out sometime.
*edit: I just realized you mentioned Neil Patrick Harris, so obviously you're talking about the revival. Never mind .

Amasis, the topic of the list youare holding came up earlier today and several of us were in hopes of getting our hands on it.. Emcee isn't sure you will share..
'I really don't like ITW or Assassins very much.... I prefer more "rock" Broadway pieces, such as the works of ALW and the early Schwartz stuff.'
Never said you had to like the 3 musicals...
I don't absolutely love the recordings of his work that I own, but I totaly understand why other people do, am familiar with the characters/plot of the musicals etc. I just think that Sondheim basically paved the way for musicals such as the ones I am more interested in.(after all, he was one of Larson's idols).
You're totally right, Glory. I forgot that Sondheim was Larson's idol/role model. I heard that some of the TTB songs resemble Sondheim songs, but I'm not sure which ones.
"About 'Livien' - wasn't it the movie he was going to do when he got the offer to be the closing Emcee for Cabaret? Or was that some other movie?"
Yes, it was! He backed out of that to take Cabaret.
Hey Emcee, to go back a bit concerning what to do at the performance next Saturday, I'm guessing what Adam would appreciate most is a discussion of his music. (Unless you've done something like that already earlier on.) Not just saying "I really love I'm With You", but going into detail about what you like about it and how it makes you feel. I'll bet that's what he cares about most.
Thanks.
I've told him a bunch of times how incredible the CD is... I'll get out about a sentence, and then forget everything else that ever crossed my mind. Perhaps the best thing for me to do is to get over how timid and I am and just have a conversation with the man. I at least owe him that much.
Emcee- we are all rooting for you! Girl just go for it.. You can do this!
I think, camerangel, I'd have to be pretty inebriated to share my list.
No, really. All I was wishing was that I'd gotten to see him in Cabaret. The rest of the, uh, requests will be given to Mr. Pascal at his performance on the 27th. Or so Emcee would have me believe. Actually, there is one song I'd like Emcee to ask him to sing. And it's pretty harmless - I don't think Emcee will dare to ask, though
.
About Sondheim - my favorite besides Sweeney Todd is probably Sunday in The Park with George. (And even though I thought Mandy Patinkin was brilliant, I was very sad that I missed Raul's take on it more recently). But anyway, as I said, I love just about all of Sondheim's work.
Oh, and the song on TTB you are thinking of the Sunday Brunch song. It's a parody of the Sunday song in 'SITPWG'
yea emcee take the opportunity to say what youve been wanting to say... I assume he'll be leaving for the Rent movie soon and who knows how long it will be before you get another chance to talk to him in person?
"I'll get out about a sentence, and then forget everything else that ever crossed my mind."
I know just how you feel, I frequently become tongue-tied myself. (Maybe *that's* why we're all on this board?) Rehearsing speeches in my mind seems to help, even though they usually end up coming out in a different form. At least I have the ideas down.
Oh, okay amasis- I'll go check out the Sunday Song.
Emcee, this'll be the how many times you've talked to him? You can get something out without sounding like a gushy fan girl. And he'll be gone in SF for awhile, so take advantage of the opportunity.
I'm sorry... Now I have to do this...
Sunday (Sondheim):
Sunday,
By the blue
Purple yellow red water
On the green
Purple yellow red grass,
Let us Pass
Through our perfect park,
Pausing on a Sunday
By the cool
Blue triangular water
On the soft
Green elliptical grass
As we pass
Through arrangements of shadows
Towards the verticals of trees
Forever...
Sunday (Larson)
SUNDAY
IN THE BLUE
SILVER CHROMIUM DINER
ON THE GREEN
PURPLE YELLOW RED STOOLS
SIT THE FOOLS
WHO SHOULD EAT AT HOME
INSTEAD THEY PAY ON SUNDAY
FOR A COOL
ORANGE JUICE OR A BAGEL
ON THE SOFT
GREEN CYLINDRICAL STOOLS
SIT THE FOOLS
DRINKING CINNAMON COFFEE
OR DECAFFINATED TEA
FOREVER...
Yeah, I nearly choked in the theatre when I saw TTB the first time and that song came up.

Amasis, you know I wouldn't DARE!
You guys are right; I have no idea how long it will be... I need to just get over myself. I actually don't usually gush, simply because I'm so shy. Someone's lucky if they get three words from me, and luckier if those three words make any sense at all. I usually have a "plan," but it never works out. I don't want to stutter, I don't want to get my tonuge in a huge knot. I want this to matter.
Thanks, amasis! Wow- now I'll have to check out SITPWG. Maybe I'll become hooked on it, because I love "Sunday" from TTB.
Okay, breaking into the conversation again but...I finally got ff.net to post my Roger angst chapter I was talking about the other night. I'm really proud of this one, so read, review, let me know what ya think.
I think you guys are gonna like this next one...
Chapter 2
When is the concert Emcee? We'll be sure to give plenty of inspirational speeches until then
Come on, Emcee. Just bring your iPod and have him listen to it a couple of times. I'm sure he can pick it up quite easily.
BroadwayDiva: You're welcome! I like being a shill for Sondheim .
