Hello everyone! I can't begin to tell you all how happy I was to be able to meet so many of you over the last two weekends. I've said it before - the quality of his fans is a direct reflection of the quality of the man. And we all know he's the best!

I actually saw the show on Saturday night as well as Sunday afternoon. My friend (Miss P) was a successful bidder on one of the items in Greg's dr and she asked me to pick it up for her on Saturday. I was at the stage door a little before 7:30 and I saw Greg across the street at D&D getting his coffee. It was POURING down rain at that point and he ran across and invited me upstairs to get out of the rain. This was wonderful because it gave me 10 or 15 minutes to have a nice 'last chat' with him.

I couldn't believe how much smaller that little dressing room looked! He said it surprised him too. Once the 'dressing' came down (drapes and such) it really turned into a walk in closet. (Actually I have a couple of walk in closets in my apartment that are bigger!). There was still lots of stuff lying around and it was obvious that it was going to take some more time to get him fully packed out.

We talked about the new cast and he asked me about my thoughts on the subject. I won't relate them all here, I'll just say that he said that the Andre we all know now will be completely gone and a whole new Andre will be taking his place. He said "you won't even know him". I told him that I won't know him because I won't see him. I want to remember the one who's there now.

I went to take my leave and told him that I just wasn't able to say goodbye - so I wouldn't. He asked me then if this was going to be the last time he saw me and I assured him that he was going to see far too much of me the next day. (Since I was going to be sitting in the first row!). I just wasn't going to be able to see him at the stage door. I'm just way too emotional to do that to him or myself.

The show Saturday night was interesting and disappointing. There was ZERO energy in the house from a nearly-dead audience. Sadly there was almost nothing coming from the stage either. The major exceptions to this were Greg and Lucie. I know it's easy to say that on this thread, but it was absolutely true. (They actually got a bigger applause at the curtain call than any of the leads). I felt that both of the new guys showed the ability to pull of the roles, but weren't close to getting there yet. Brian D'Arcy James turned in the stronger performance of the two, but it was still pretty weak. What I did see from him was an attempt to mimic a lot of the moves we've become used to seeing Norbert do. Occasionally he would let loose with one or two of his own and then he shone. Keith Carradine spent FAR too much time in staring at the audience. During conversations with other characters, he would look directly at the audience. It was very off-putting and very artificial.

Now for the incredibly good news...... They must have stayed there and worked all night on Saturday. The performance on Sunday was WORLD'S better than Saturday - from both of the guys. This wasn't just ad-libbing, but seemed to be actual rehearsed changes that worked better for both guys and helped them both to relax in their roles. Brian inserted more of his own wackiness in his scenes and Keith looked much more relaxed and comfortable on stage. He's still talking to the audience a little too much, but there was a lot of improvement there as well.

I'll add one other VERY pro Keith comment - I liked his version of "When Love Walks In" better than either of the last two guys. Like them, he is not the world's greatest singer, but his version was really lovely and seemed more heartfelt and sincere.

I'm going to run my pics by Barb and Greg first and if they have no problems, I'll post a link here.

More later....

Mamie
(ps - thank you Dre and Amanda!)

(pps - During the curtain call on Saturday night, when the whole cast is lined up on the stage, Greg and Lucie turned to each other and started dancing together. I will kick myself forever that I didn't have a camera. It was wonderful!)

Tsk tsk Mamie...when love walks in? :-P

Yeah, Greg would always dance with Joanna/Lucie as the curtain came down. Joanna would always push him as they ran across the stage before the 3 leads came out(only know the always because one day I notice it and Greg would be like we always do that...oops.

re: PS, no problem Mamie. I need your address. Greg was like don't you guys have enough autographs? :-P

Yeah, I'm managing today too. Happy and bored because the other intern is signing people in so I'm just sitting alone in the office with my only job answering the phone when it rings. So it's nice to be able to be online, but on the other hand I'm a tad bored and exhausted as usual. Ah well. The afternoon shall be much more exciting re: The Official Greg Jbara Love Thread, Part 4! *Witty Title Forthcoming*

"When Love Walks In." Did they just add this song? re: The Official Greg Jbara Love Thread, Part 4! *Witty Title Forthcoming*.

But his Love Sneaks In, on the other hand, was very good.

Dre, that's what I meant when I said the afternoon shall be more exciting.

ETA: there's no indication of recognition at all. What a dushbag.

just catching up ... thanks for all the posts about Greg's last show and curtain speech. (And for the kind comments aimed toward me re. Greg's web site. It really is a joy to run it for him, and I'm very blessed to be his webmaster and doubly so to be his friend.)

José ... is that José José? I don't get around much and guess I wasn't familiar with that user name. (Anyway, thanks!!) :)

Have viewed the speech ... Greg is just a class act ... and ... well, he really is wonderful. What else is there to say? He's the real deal.

I'm "stealing" any new stage door pics I see (Andrea, Ali!) for the site ... if anyone has a prob with my doing this, just give me a yell via the web site. I know Greg would love to have them posted. As most of you know, it was his idea to start the "Friends of André" gallery, and he said that section was meant to be about the fans, not so much about him. I'd love to get as many stage door pics of Greg with fans from after his final performances (especially Sunday's) as possible, so everybody, bring 'em on! (Except 'Dre and Ali, whose pics I've already grabbed from fan photos here and will be posting soon ... so if either of you, for some strange reason that I can't fathom, don't want them on Greg's site, be sure to holler at me!) :)

I actually just like looking at various pics of him in the Eskimo Pie shirt. lol

btw, a few have already been sending or offering pics taken from the curtain speech. I'll have to wait and see what Greg says about possibly posting any of those on his site. Our policy (with very rare exceptions) is to not post images with his boys on his web site, and since they were on stage during his speech, they of course turn up in many of the photos that were taken. (Another reason I admire this man is that he is an amazing, caring dad.)

After reading what's been posted thus far and all, I admit I'm even more glad in a big way that I went up the week before when I was able to spend some quality time with Greg that wasn't hectic and ... I dunno ... it was just nice and laid back and relaxed. Not sure I could've dealt with all the emotion this weekend, especially on Sunday. Glad so many of you got to have that special experience of seeing Greg's last performance as "André". I'd say it worked out great for all of us!

And last, but not least, the modern art that Cat made out of the melon I didn't want to eat-

Man, I am an artiste....

In summation, don't take me to restaurants with you if you have a particular aversion to melon art.

And my wrist is in that picture, all you people clamoring for pictures...what more could you ask for...

Barb, that is fine by me! yeah, it seems like Ali, Liz and I have the exact! same avatar except not. It would have been weird if we took a group picture and everyone put it up as their avatar. That would have been confusing.

yes cat, modern art. good job. lol. love the pics. and of course there is the one of Liz that I took (but she posted) further up. that is a classic!

has anyone told the Andrew story yet?

well, this is what happened. He had come out on stage to bring Aidan on, then just stood in the back. and later, when some of us were by the stage door, just hanging out like we usualy do, Andrew came out and put on his sunglasses. we called him over and he was like, "did you see the show? wasn't it sad?" and took off his sunglasses and ran them down his face like a tear falling down. then he said how Julie was back stage and Aidan was calling out for dady, and andrew said that he brought him out being the "strong man" that he is. I can't remember what he said but he kept moving his head towards us when he said something then pulling it back afterwards. then he left and sort of swaggered down the sidewalk. we watched him for like 30 sec. then I turned to the group and said "he's drunk." and they all agreed that they were thinking the same thing.

that
was the drunken Andrew story.

Edit: DRS down 14% this past week.

"The departure of stars Jonathan Pryce and Norbert Leo Butz kicked the grosses of Broadway tuner "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" ($551,660) down by a whopping $130,000, the largest box office dip seen on the Rialto for the week ending July 23."
