I like Japanese food until about 30 minutes after I eat it and my stomache says "what the hell is this?!"
Before I went to Japan I hated Japanese food. Here in the states its Americanized so much. Once I got there I found some dished that I really liked. I love Omu Rice and Chicken Katsu I havn't been able to find a place back in the US that serves them.
I prefer Chinese food.

i like both! dammit you're making me hungry!
All-you-can-eat Japanese buffet is a good idea at the time, right until the 20 minute mark when you feel like you'll never want to eat Japanese food ever again. And then 5 hours later, you're craving it and wish you'd had that one last cali roll.
(As was my experience yesterday.)
I prefer Chinese food, not because I'm Chinese (actually, Chinese food is one of my least favorite ethnicities of food), but because there's more variety than Japanese food, I find.

I've seen chicken Katsu truth but I doubt it's the same here
This would be a good time to link to the Ty Giordano interview where he talks about eating lung and intestine while in Japan. ![]()

Japanese food is my all time favorite. The first time I had it was in the late sixties on a trip to San Francisco. We ate at a place called Yamato's. This was long before sushi became popular. I was about 12 then and I had no idea what I was eating. At least I knew it was good. My brother kept trying to eat his soup with chop sticks. We were eating dessert while he was still on his soup. I didnt have it until many years later as an adult. I went for the sushi and sashimi and have been hooked on it every since. I think it has a clean and healthy taste.
I live in Hartford and we are not know for a Japanese cuisine. I do get to California a few times a year to visit my family and indulge in what appears to be authentic Japanese cooking. I often eat in places in Palo Alto where Japanese people eat. Now I am hungry for sushi.

It is quite clean-tasting. It's simple.
Yesterday was my first time eating sashimi and liking it! I usually stay away from the raw stuff, but I don't think you can really appreciate Japanese food otherwise, so I've been forcing myself to eat sashimi, and finally over lunch yesterday, I had a breakthrough and I really love salmon sashimi now! The texture, the taste...*drool* I also had my first chopped scallop role. I'm not a fan of tuna sashimi though. Too chewy and pungent.

TYPE A..Try some vegatable sushi. Also, I have had some good smoked fish sushi such as smoked salmon or makerel.
edamame is addictive
I LOVE shrimp tempura with udon noodles. The spicey tuna role and the shrimp tempura role make me drool too. yumm
now are we discussing new style Japanese, or traditional Japanese food?

Oh my goodness I went to Trader Joes today and I bought dry roasted edamame. It's awsome. I also bought instant miso soup--amaaaaaaaaaaaazing. It comes with udon noodles in the soup, oh man, I have to go back and buy more.
well, healthy, but not always. Depends on how much salt they use. But hoping that the soybean itself gives you lots of protein and all...
I LOVE sashimi. I love ahi, salmon, and that white stinky fish especially. I also love udon, boiled edamame, and green tea ice cream (which I guess doesn't really count).
I ALSO LOVE POCKY!
Luckily I live in the SF Bay Area, so I go crazy whenever I'm in Japantown. Maybe 3 or 4 times a year.

There's a Japanese store by my house so I walk there often. The other day I bought--get this--CHOCOLATE GUM. Crazy Japanese food items!
