Frankly, I can't think of anything at this point that could make people want to vote for McCain, but that's the nature of an October Surprise, isn't it? Or will the 10/08 Surprise make people vote for the Democrat this time?
So what's your prediction:
* Invasion of Iran?
* Damaging video?
* Last-minute vice presidential switch?
* Alaska wedding?
* Sudden drop in oil prices?
* Nothing--the Republicans will continue to limp toward historic defeat
Something with Osama (captured, confirmed dead) and some scare tactics regarding a terrorist attack.

I have no idea. But I think McCain is going to win and it makes me sick.
Osama Bin Laden will release a video the weekend before the election.
or
McCain will lash out with the biggest lie possible a day or two before the election and he won;t even have to back it up or prove it. The stupidity of the American people will be scared into voting for McCain. Fear sells.
I agree with Romantico about a new video being realeased a couple of days till the election
or
an arrest of a group planning on a terrorist attack
or
a threat that raises us to code orange or what ever color is bad
or
finally getting Osama...which according to many people he is living in a villa in Pakistan, so it might be easier now (Christy Aumikapor (don't know spelling) mentioned it on real time on friday night)
Bristol has an early birth and--SURPRISE!--its the Antichrist!
Palin will insist that she saw the Russians fueling up their planes, ready to attack.
This year's surprise is there is no surprise.
Isn't it Papa, bickle and the Republicans' job to whip the Democrats into a frenzy of doubt and worry? Do we really need to do that to ourselves? Obama is going to win.
Barring an October Surprise, the biggest problem could be complacency. Obama's overwhelming advantage in the 'ground game' should be able to overcome this. Their massive, well organized network of staff and volunteers across all the battelground states should be able to get out the vote.
I agree, way too much complacency. Over at Huffingtonpost, there's almost a gloating "we won this thing" among bloggers, and that mindset is very, very dangerous. Add in the constant punditry assertion that only a handful of states matter, and too many people could stay home and think they aren't required to make a difference. They are. Never have we needed landslide-like participation as much as we do now. I don't just want to see a squeak by victory, which would empower the nasty Republican backlash -- I want to see a resounding NO! to Bush and this nightmare, insulting ticket. (Palin misreading the Albright quote on the Starbucks cup is a new low -- as the stock market plunges and people are made homeless before our eyes...)
We must vote. We must be personally accountable for this election, each of us. Own a piece of this victory, everybody.

PJ can't it be all of the above?
I think Madbrian and Auggie are right about the complacency: We must be vigilant up until the polls close.
Republicans excel at last-minute election stealing.
It's scary to think that anyone would be complacent about this election.
I'm with Borstal thinking that there's not going to be an October surprise.
With respect to Republican 'election stealing', the majority of battleground states have a Democratic governor and/or SecState. That was not the case in 2000 or 2004, and it makes life far more difficult for the Republicans. That's not to say that there won't be attempts to disqualify voters, or disrupt the process and cause massive delays; both of those are almost absolute certainties. But again, I look to Obama's huge advantage in groudn resources to be able to combat this.

My flippant response not withstanding: We are going to have to stay on full alert until the last votes are counted.

My friends here are not complacent! We should be proud and thrilled with the current polls. The mud is NOT sticking. The public is not buying the Rove bullhockey (I encourage all to add bullhockey to their political vocabulary) this year! It is our turn. As Ron Santo boldly predicted, "This is the Year!"

Around here the behavior of Homeland Security is freaking out more people than the thought of terrorism. Are there black helicopters without obvious markings flying around other cities? We know it's them, but why the need for the intimidation factors - markings not visible from the ground, buzzing over at 50 feet, being terse and hostile with everybody at the inspection stations...
If this keeps up the 'no snitch' rule will only become more deeply entrenched. We shouldn't be made to feel afraid of our own government!

I just figured the black helicopters were working for Obama.

It is probably the Wright Brigade or Terorists!
Perhaps maybe the Republicans want to lose this one! The next four years are going to be hell with this economic meltdown. Why not have a Democratic President at the helm to taake the blame? Then the Repubs can win back the House in The Mid term elections then rally for a '12 win.
SNAFU, that is EXACTLY what my friend Willis at the gym was saying yesterday.
Palin's affair is revealed as being with a man that was previously a woman Palin dated for years who was recently caught having sex with McPain at a KKK rally while shooting up heroin and watching kiddie porn on an iPod while Palin was videotaping with one hand and slapping her child with the other while repeatedly using the Lord's name in vain.
I think we can all agree that who ever is elected is inheriting a huge mess. I'd like to think if Obama is elected, he and his advisors will be able to get us out of it.

Someone must have reported seeing a wolf, Yawper, either that or some poor neighborhood dog was mistaken for a wolf .
