Holy hot avatar! *studies*
Is that at the theatre?!
Wait, I have to read back -- I went to bed early and missed everything!

Well, I'm just pretty much dead.
... but before I die, I'm really happy for you!!! YAY!! I'm all smiley now!
I need to -- ABSOLUTELY NEED TO -- get over myself and have a legitimate conversation with the man. One that doesn't consist of "uh... um.... uh.... hi?" Because there is NO way he doesn't recognize me by now; he's not stupid. Hell, one of the child-wranglers recognizes me. I'm just like... the random mute child.
What time did you catch him? Maybe that's the best bet for when Britt and I take our poles -- I don't want to have dragged that thing if he's not going to come out afterwards.
By the way, the "trailer park, stubbly Caractacus Potts" made me laugh so hard!!
PS -- he's the sexiest man alive. That's all.

Aww! It was truly amazing. I was totally half asleep when I typed that, though. I'm glad it even made sense. Haha.
Um. I got there about an hour before the show and he walked up about 45 minutes before. Something like that. He had a smile on and just looked so content. I was surprised how nice he was about it. I didn't expect him to be mean... just not nearly as nice and charming!
I think the sweetest part of our conversation was when he signed my Taboo CD insert. I told him that I thought it was amazing and how much I love it and he looked up at me with the most sincere smile and said "Isn't it beautiful?" in a gentle voice that sounded like he could have started crying. I almost melted.

I guess that's what I'd be afraid of. That he'd be friendly, but distant and rushed. Then again, call time for those actors is like half an hour, so maybe it's not too big a deal. And he totally wouldn't be bitchy to you.
But if he saw two friendly looking girls with bamboo sticks, I don't think he'd be bitchy either.
It makes me sad when he gets even the slightest bit emotional. Taboo's beautiful, and I love hearing him go on about how great the score was.
PS -- this was the stage door entrance, yeah?

He was too, too sweet. And totally talkative! I'm sure he'd be the same with you too. It makes me wonder if the man ever isn't nice to his fans. Haha.
Yeah, it was right in front of the stage door. I was the only one there and felt totally out of place and annoying. He really made me feel comfortable though!
And the shows were just so amazing. The matinee was actually the best performance of Chitty I have ever seen. The audiences for both shows were terrible. I, of course, was smiling like a loon the whole time and and cracking up at the most random things. I gave him entrance applause both times and everyone in the audience just turned and gave me weird looks. Oh well.

gahhh. i don't know if i'd have the guts to just lurk around the stage door...especially by myself! and then i'm missing out on all the raul goodness!
i'm sure he's so nice to his fans always always always! i feel like even if he was blowing them off, he's still be super sweet about it! haha. we love our kitten with the big warm heart.

Well, I'd have to be talkative back. With a few exceptions, to be an actor and talk to me is like talking to a wall with a big smile on its face.
Were you the only one who clapped? And I'm sure they're appreciative of one loon in a crappy audience.
He can be snippy. But so can anyone. But if you put out a poll on the nicest actors, he's notoriously really good to his fans.

I was totally the only one who clapped. I think I was the only one alive. Or at least the only one paying attention to all the random things he did. I was laughing so hard I couldn't breath.
I was so nervous at first because I hate stopping actors. I just ALWAYS feel like I'm bothering them. He told me not to be absurd, though. Which made me laugh. I mean, who says absurd? He was totally sweet about the picture, too. I think I said it really meekly like "Would you mind taking a picture with me, as well. If you wouldn't mind?". Haha. He was really happy to do it. He looked around confused at first and said he didn't know who could take it. I told him I would attempt to take it myself and he laughed and said "OKAY! Let's see what we can do!". Ah... memories.
I'll shut up now. Haha!

I have definately seen him a bit snippy at times, which is totally normal.
That's one thing I love about him. If he sees you are nervous, he tries to say things on your level that you can relate to. And even though it's obvious he's a total genious, he never appears pompous or has an air of "oh, you silly little fan girl."

Posted: 9/30/05 at 11:50ami'm surprised he isn't snippy more often...i mean, all of us keep coming back with reports of terrible audiences...it'd be all i could do to just stop the show and be like "You all suck! Goodbye!" or something totally dramatic and over the top like that. hehe

By the way, absurd is one of my favorite words. Maybe because people don't use it. I think it's nice. I'm glad he used it!
On a totally un-PC note, I imagine him very limp-wristedly going "oh, don't be absurd!" Please tell me that's not what he did.
I never stop people when I randomly see them -- I just get afraid. And the only person I've waited for before a show was Adam, because I was told to. A few times I've gotten to Chitty early, and since I usually go in the back side of the theatre anyway, I've kept an eye out, but I've never seen him. I used to see Kevin on my lunch breaks all the time over the summer, but I was always too shy to say anything.
You took the picture yourself? Nice job! I'm awful at that. I take a picture of something like 60 degrees to my left, instead.
I've always found him very good at trying to make you feel less nervous. The first time I met him, I was literally trembling, and my fear over a year later is still no less obvious. He's totally unassuming, and I think the fact that he's so soft-spoken and not some towering super-confident personality makes it easier. It seems like he tries really hard, and I definitely appreciate that. I think that's why I often get a lot of silly joking-things out of him. Sometimes laughter you can share makes the scariness go away.
I heard some not-so nice stories about him from the summer, about his bitchy side. I was afraid to go near him for a while, actually -- I wouldn't want to see that. Adam can be bitchy, but for some reason it's funny to watch when you're not the target. Probably because the look on his face seems like what he'd give to his kids if they misbehaved.

That makes sense. I've seen him get an attitude with an older man, before. But the man was being annoying, so it was reasonable.
I may be way out in left feild here - but I feel like he was extra nice to me because it was obvious that I wasn't just there to see Caractacus Potts. I was there to see Raúl Esparza. If that makes sense. Even during the show I was laughing mostly at the Raúl-isms he added.
Hmm. I think one of my favorite parts of the show was at the matinee during "Me Ol' Bamboo". He shoved the stick up between his legs then screamed and rolled around on the floor holding... himself. I feel like he forgot about the kids in the audience for a second. I, of course, was dying of laughter.

Was it one of the camera-happy old men? 'cause they're crazy. Craaazy, I tell you. Not that we aren't, but at least we're respectfully crazy.
And I don't think that's so left-field. I think that there was something of a trap in being in a huge show -- and maybe that makes him more appreciative of people who are there to see HIM now. I mean, on any given night, there may only be one person who's here for the sole purpose of seeing him, and not the car. That's not been the case in his other recent projects, maybe.
To the Bamboo story... *die* why does he feel such a compulsion to grab himself? Really, there are children in the audience, Raul! I love it when he squeaks at that part. I remember thinking "please don't hurt yourself."

Yeah, I definately said something to Raul once that made me go "****, why did I just say that." The way he responded made me feel stupid, but it wasn't his fault. And I totally agreed with him. I was just like "damn it, Anne Marie. Why did you have to something so dumb?"
Ah, I love it when Raul grabs his "balls"....

Haha. it wasn't like that. He just laughed and said it. Like he thought it was completely ridiculous of me to feel like a bother. Which really made me smile.
And honestly, at that point I was a bit distracted by the weird pizza/nacho/cheesy/dip thing he was holding. I wanted to ask him what it was, but since it was obvious he was about to eat it I figured that might be rude to ask "Um. Raúl. What the hell is that?"

When I admitted to him that I'd already seen the show twice, I got tripped up on my words and made it sound like I was saying something offensive. I felt really bad, because he was like "aw, no! It's fun!" I just... I didn't mean for it to come out that way! I appologized and clarified like ten times.
No limp-wrists? Good.
I really like his shirt. He works the stripes.

I like it too! But like I said earlier, sometimes I feel like the only shirts the man owns are striped, long sleeved button down shirts! Which is definatley not a bad thing. He looks great in them!
And truth be told, I sort of imagined him saying "absurd" with a limp wrist too.

The man just kept asking him to personalize autographs for his many children. Raúl did it once and then said "I'm sorry, I can't keep doing that!" in a rude tone of voice.
After we said goodbye and he told me to enjoy the shows I walked off to the side to look at the picture. I totally died when I saw his face. I mean... wow. And what makes it even funnier is that we had just been laughing and smiling but he felt the need to make that face for the picture. Whatever makes you happy, Raúl.

And a NAVY t-shirt. I have photo-proof.
My imagination is a bad, bad place. *behaves* I don't intend it, but saying things like that is a bit mean, and then I feel kinda bad for poking fun. I mean, it's not his fault.
ETA - he probably knew you'd end up staring at it and wanted to sex up the expression a bit.

Well then he knows me all too well. Because I have indeed been swooning over it.
I think the absolute highlight of my day was at the evening performance during "You Two". That is absolutely my favorite song in the show and I was just in heaven and having the best time watching it. Towards the end of the song when he and Ellen are dancing, he looked down at me from the corner of his eye and gave me the biggest smirk/smile. I think I stopped breathing for a little bit.
I always hate saying things that that, though because I don't want people to think I'm bragging and being snotty. So, please don't take it that way at all!
