hey G! What did you end up doing last night?
Broadway Legend Joined: 7/28/05
Nothing too interesting. I passed Raúl and his wife on the street. That was... interesting.

greatdct, will you share details?

I would like to know some of the details, too, g.

It was just very awkward. It was only a few days after I poured my heart out to him. Did I tell you guys about that? I don't think I did.
Anyway, they walked past me and I kind of did a double take because I wasn't really expecting to see them. He looked at me and then his wife looked at me and then they looked at each other. It was just very awkward. He seemed to be in a bad mood and the whole "arm in arm" thing with his wife looked very forced. It was just really weird. I quickly turned and faced away from him and didn't say anything.

Eeek. That definitely sounds pretty awkward.

...
strange.
what did you say to him?
Broadway Legend Joined: 7/28/05
I didn't say anything to him last night.
Oh but a few days earlier I wrote him a really sweet letter and basically told him all of the things that I forgot to tell him at the benefit. Things I get too shy to tell him in person. I left it at the theatre along with a book for him to sign. He wrote me the sweetest thing in the book. I'll have to scan it. It was just so sweet.
But it was still very awkward last night. There was just something very wrong with that picture.

so they were awkward before they saw you? i wonder why they gave you that look.
Broadway Legend Joined: 7/28/05
Definitely.
it wasn't a mean look or anything. But I kind of felt like a dear in the headlights.

Aw. Well, at least he wrote ya something sweet back. Kindness is all that matters between the two situations!

i suppose when one is in showbusiness, one must take care to look as though all is well, even if one is not famous.
one must hope that things work out, somehow.
g, that does sound weird. Being the psych major that I am, however, I put some thought into this.
Maybe he was just as shocked to see/recognize you as you were to see him, and it was weird for him to have a fan and his wife in the same place. He could have thought you were going to say something to him and didn't want to have to bring his wife into it. He does tend to keep his private life and his professional life separate; for all the interviews he does, he only mentions his wife in passing.
Or he just thinks you're stalking him and was considering his nearest escape route.

I was thinking along those same lines. But I quickly turned away because it could have gotten awkward if he had tried to be nice and say hi or something.
Ah. Don't say that. Now I'll worry that that's what he was doing. Eep.
ooo i can't wait for the scan! yikes...awkward situation...never good. i have to agree with o (your new nickname! haha) that it was probably the combination of someone from his private life and someone from his professional life coming together...it's like when you hang out with someone you went to high school with and someone you went to college with who don't know each other...it's just wierd and you don't know what to say.
so you didn't end up seeing a show at all?

Maybe he was sad you didn't have any chutney with you.

if you had no memorably unusual encounter and the atmosphere surrounding the two seemed strange before you made eye contact, i'd say that it's entirely unrelated to recognition.
i hope they'll be alright.
o. Heh, it reminds me of that Othello remake. And I totally agree about the high school/college thing. I don't visit my high school friends at college (despite being 3 states away) because it's just so awkward to be the odd-person out. And they don't visit me here because it's too cold.
g, sorry, the stalking joke probably wasn't helping!
Broadway Legend Joined: 7/28/05
Nope! Didn't see a show. I just spent time in the city with my friend and had lots of eggnog lattes. Sorry I left the B.O without saying goodbye! I was a little let down.
I think it must have been about the chutney. He's always been so sweet to me when he sees me. So it was just very awkward. Although, I've never been around him when his wife is hanging on him. So, I'm sure he acts differently when he's with her and when he's not.
Hehe. No stalking. I promise!
oh my goodness don't even worry about that!! i would have been in TEARS if i was you. and i was so wrapped up in other stuff. well i'm glad you had fun doing other stuff anyway.
haha...i think our luck was just BAD at the BO...i went to get my closing night ticket but because yesterday was veteran's day my paycheck hadn't cleared yet and i didn't have enough in my account to buy it! it was pretty embarrassing.

Oh, thanks, you gave me a good idea. If the Chitty house manager doesn't get back to me by November 22nd, I'm marching down there before the Rent screening. I am NOT missing the closing show.

i'm amazed that anyone would spend every penny that they have on a show that they have presumably seen many, many times.
i'm not really worried about getting a ticket...i keep checking ticketmaster and they still have stuff available...i was just kinda hoping that i could get something better at the box office. eh. if i haven't found something good by Dec. 1, i'll try the box office again.
