To great talent...

I have to say I quite enjoy the Spanish/Miami accent he uses when imitating his parents and other family members in the chatterbox videos. It's too adorable.

Funny random story: one of my only friends from high school who I've maintained contact with is just one of the most genuinely sweet people in the world. She really cares about her friends, and wants to try to learn all about the things they're into, and stuff. So one day she came over and I had my laptop on; the background was a photo of Raul and I, and she was like "oh, that's Raul, isn't it?" (She's a Rent fan, so I had let her borrow TTB once.) She looked him up online on her own after that, I guess. She goes to the University of Delaware now, and one day I remember talking to her and she was like "guess what! I drove by Wilmington, and I thought of you because I remembered reading that Raul was born there!" It was so cute.

Anyway, yeah, ss is right; his parents are both Cuban immigrants, but he was born in the states. He grew up in Miami, mostly. I don't remember where I heard that Spanish was his first language, but I'm pretty sure I did. Even if it is, he speaks perfect English.

If I'm not mistaken, he says that Spanish is his first language in the 1st Chatterbox video. Then Seth complains about Spanish speakers who take Spanish classes and Raúl explains that everyone at the high school took classes... (can you tell I watched the interview recently, lol).

I want to check out the first one, but it just can't be better than the second. To great talent...

I love the story on the second one about a relative of his who he thought only spoke Spanish, so he'd say bad things in English around her, thinking she didn't get them; but she did.

He also mentions that he learneed Spanish first on the second Chatterbox video... he says his parents worked and his grandmother cared for him a lot of the time, and she only spoke Spanish. Or so he thought -- and then the story that Emcee mentioned comes into play.

Doesn't the story go that he didn't realize that until he was like 17? That's just hilarious. I wonder what kind of stuff he said!

To great talent...

Haha, yea, he said he didn't realize it until his late teens. Ahh!

So pretty! Em, I never thought that the second Chatterbox could be as good as the first, and then it was, lol. I think they are both amazing, depending on what you're in the mood for. The second one is great for hearing about Taboo, and watching him sing, but the first one has more stories from his early career that I knew nothing about and funny stories of him screwing up while working with Julia Murney.

To great talent...

They apparently know each other from way back when, which makes me all kinds of happy.

Ooh, true. The eyes...
#2842

To great talent...

Maybe I can just color them in green on this one. You know, like that b&w version of Idina's headshot where they colored in only her eyes? It's creepy.

Bumping this thread because I heard his rendition of "Hair" today, and it's been stuck in my head for quite a while now. Not that I'm really complaining!

Opening the Raul thread to pictures makes me smile. Love the Rocky Horror one - the pose, the stare, gripping the CD case in his teeth! In a certain other picture, I don't know which catches my attention first - the smoldering stare, or the exposed, ah, abdomen.
