...sucks. But all my friends at BWW are making me feel better. (That, and the 31 Days of Oscar on TCM.)

Can you catch strep via the Internet? I just wonder because I woke up during the night with a vicious sore throat. I can't swallow at all now.
Does anybody have a sure-fire sore throat reliever that I can take until the docs office opens on Monday?

Oh, Mamie! Why does that always happen RIGHT before a three-day weekend?
Try tea with lemon first, or Cepacol Sore Throat Spray. It works, but really it's just masking the pain. Hopefully it will get you through the weekend. If you start to run a fever, though, you should think about going to the E.R.
So sorry.

If you think it is strep, don't wait till Monday! Find a local doc-in-a-box and get the throat checked.

I'm starting to think that it's more of an allergic reaction to something than anything else. Lots of liquids, including hot tea with honey and lemon, is really helping. I also found some Chloroseptic spray in the back of the closet. I was using it A LOT at first but now I feel like I can go without it.
My head was all stuffy this morning (dust allergies I think) and I just think I might have been sleeping with my mouth open, so I could breath. It may have just gotten really dry. I'm sure it's not strep because when I had that, I couldn't even drink water without it hurting!

Tip: Keep the throat spray in the refrigerator. The cooling sensation feels good (and for some reason, the initial medicinal taste of the Chloraseptic isn't as nasty). Popsicles help, too (though I know it's only "surface" relief so I also take Tylenol Cold and Cough).
Get well soon, mamie.

Posted: 2/16/08 at 11:29amThat sounds like a good idea. I laid back down after that last post and just woke up, feeling even better. My head is really stuffy though. It's real cold outside and I think the heat is just running more than usual and it's kicking up dust. I'm very allergic to house dust and I think that's why I'm so stuffed up. I'm going to go make a huge pot of vegetable soup right now and I know it'll make me feel a lot better. (This was my mom's version of 'chicken soup' when I was little. No matter how sick we were, home made vegetable soup was always a sure-cure. That psychological 'link' to Mom makes it still pretty effective!)

Mamie, you can gargle with half peroxide and warm water . . . . that used to help.
There is always salt and warm water.
I hope it isn't strep throat.

I had an audition this morning, and after singing my heart out, my throat immediately started to hurt. It's throbbing right now.
I'm glad this thread is here! Get well soon, Mamie!

Posted: 2/16/08 at 8:53pmI woke up this morning and my throat was healed! I'm a little mucus-y in the chest, but that'll go away in a few days. Thank god the throat is over...I was getting seriously angry.

Posted: 2/16/08 at 9:03pmWinter time is bad on throats because the heat dries the air. Invest in a warm-air humidifier and run it in your bedroom at night.

Posted: 2/16/08 at 9:12pmDrink tons and tons and tons of water, then some OJ, then some citrus fruits, then rest, then some water, then rest, then some fruit, then rest, then water and your throat will be good as new. Unless you need a prescription. Because you didnt drink enough water.

Posted: 2/16/08 at 11:13pmLOL - almost true. If it doesn't cure you, it will at least make you feel a whole lot better. I really thought my sore throat was the result of the dry, dusty heat but I'm not so sure anymore. It felt a lot better during the day but it started hurting again by the evening and now even my ears hurt. I can't even fight a regular old cold anymore on my own so it looks like doctor time come Monday no matter what. I HATE GOING TO THE DOCTOR.

Posted: 2/16/08 at 11:16pmI've had no voice all day and of course everyone and their brother chose today to phone me. My poor mother called me to tell me she was going to the doctor because her hearing was going and she had to put my dad on the phone because she couldn't make out what I was saying.

And wash your hands! I worked as a bank teller for 2 years back in college, so I had to get in the habit of constantly washing my hands, from dealing with all that cash. So now I still am in the habit of washing my hands several times throughout the day.

You're right George. They say that half of the rhinoviruses (source of colds and flu) can be stopped through the simple act of regularly washing hands.
I must not have washed mine enough because it turns out that a cold is exactly what I have. It's in my chest and head and my throat is really sore. I'm sitting here all shmeared up with Vicks and sipping my tea and honey, with my throat spray and roll of toilet tissue close by. (I never seem to have Kleenex when it's needed.)
I love long weekends....

On Tuesday, I am teaching a lesson on the importance of hand washing to first grade. The book I am reading to them is called "Germs are Not for Sharing"
Anyway, since I work with kids, I swear by hand sanitizer. I have the purell key chain that I keep on my belt buckle. Apparently it's working wonders!! *knocks on wood*
