Help, help, help!!!!!!!!!

Will the Oscar hype ever end? Every news show has featured lengthy stories about this samned show. Sam Champion has been doing his weather forecasts from Hollywood. Good Morning America is broadcasting from La La Land. The newspapers are filled with stories anout the Oscars.

Who cares?

For someone who hates and loathes movies, this is the most unbearable time of the year.

BOYCOTT THE OSCARS!!!!!! Movies are evil!

You better go hibernate for the next few days. Turn off the t.v. and the radio. Curl up on the couch and start reading that stack of books you haven't gotten to yet.

One of the reasons I enjoy the Oscars (well during & after) is to see what everyone is wearing. You should just pay attention to that

if you don't like the oscars why freak out over it? just ignore it like i do. and i live in la....imagine that. i just go on with my life like nothing is different, not that i have to try. i'm actually going to see a play today, the oscars are nothing special to me.

I'm into the oscars this year because I've seen all the movies. I can't wait to get home from work and tune in to the red carpet fiasco!

Am I the only one getting tired of Dollypop's "Movies are evil" schtick? It is an art form, like music and theatre and literature, for God's sake. Some of it is crap and pulp entertainment meant for making money and amusing the lowest form of intelligence, but much of it is brilliant and moving and poetic and thought provoking and mysterious and awesome (in the true sense of the word) and uplifting and joyous. To dismiss an entire art form because Carol Channing didn't get to do the movie version of Dolly is like dismissing all music because Millie Vanilli won the Grammy. Get off your high horse and open your mind. I think you will be surprised what you will find.

And the fact that I am saying this to a TEACHER is just downright frightening.

I teach my students to appreciate LITERATURE, not movies.

Movies are NOT an art form. They are popular entertainment. They are about as "artistic" as The Three Stooges.

How many great works of literature have been watered down and destroyed by Hollywood?

How many great Broadway musicals have been turned into travesties by the film industry?

I ask you!

What about the films that IMPROVE on their source material? West Side Story is a better film than play. Sound of Music, Oliver, Cabaret? All better films than the original musicals. Then there are the films that are totally original that are brought to life with only the film makers imagination (and a good chunk of change)that make one look at the world differently. That tell a story in a way that moves an audience, and encourages them to explore ideas and cultures that they might not have ever considered before. Would you tell your students to stop reading if they didn't like the book The Di Vinci Code? No you would say, "That is not where literature starts or ends. Keep reading until you find the works that speak to your heart, that move you and make you feel." You would not say, "You are right that book sucks and therefore you may stop reading because books are EVIL!" Then again, maybe YOU would. It is small minded teachers like you that are ruining the education system.

I'm taking it further. What some people may not be aware of is how many elements of any film, bad or good, are handled by creative people. You must be an artist to create the art direction, wardrobe. makeup, photography, sound, oh I could go on and on, not to mention the artistic vision of the director him/her self!

The mind reels at some people's ignorance of art.

There is pop entertainment pulp literature.
There are schmaltzy popcorn plays.

In every aspect of art there is the "mass produced" and the truely artistic. To say that all movies belong in the former category is complete nonsense.

There are movies which are the highest of art. Teaching that they are all frivilous does a great disservice to you and your students.

Teach them to discern, to make distinctions. Do not teach them to reject whole forms because some people do it to make money.

movies, theatre, books are all forms of art - they are different Dollypop, maybe you should teach your students that and teach them to appreciate the differences and uniqueness in each one. there are some books that are not "art" (The DaVinci Code) but there are also books that are epitomes of an artform (Madame Bovary). there are also not so wonderful movies (summer blockbusters) but there are deeply poetic movies that use the specific language of cinema to affect an audience (8 1/2, for example). i am sorry that you are teaching students this narrow view of what is "art" - who says that what you think is great art is the same thing other people think is worthy of artistic value? personally i don't think jerry herman works in art whereas everything, even the flops, that sondheim touches ooze artistic merit.

I for one love movies & love watching the Oscars every year. It is as American as apple pie. The best song fiasco may come back & bite them in the you know what. The fact that this won says Wildhorn is wasting his time on Broadway. He should be writing for the movies. If that **** won for best song than anything can

Nope it wasn't.

Only kidding, I saw Dolly with Pearl Bailey. I enjoyed it but the show was not the greatest thing since sliced bread. It was in trouble on the road if I recall. It just caught on for whatever reason. I have seen many more shows I thought were superior & many did not make it. That's life as they say

Wonder waht the movie of Hello Dolly was ? I saw that & found it more enjoyable as they opened it up ( sometimes too much - Before The Parade Passes By) & the lead could sing
