Does anyone have any information as to what type of theatre this was (its torn down now and replaced by NYU dorms)? I had fond memories of going there when it was a nightclub but never knew its history.

It was an old vaudeville theater .There was an Academy of Music theater across the street. That was torn down & the Palladium became the new Academy of Music.
There was almost no lobby to speak of. I have no idea how ornate it might have been when it opened but my guest is that it was very pedestrian in design & functional.
The architect was Thomas Lamb who designed many Times Square theaters such as The State, Capitol,Rivoli & Mark Strand. They have all been torn down.
The Palladium was my favorite club during those years. I loved how huge it was, and how each room was decorated by another artist. If I remember correctly, the bathrooms were Kenny Sharf. Or was it Keith Haring? Remember the Mike Todd room? My favorite. I just loved the sweeping curved staircases. I had my best times there, even better than Studio.
