The ONLY reservation I've had with this is that I get an ANASTASIA vibe from it - especially with regard to the treatment of the 'villian'. And that was the deal-breaker for me in ANASTASIA.
I will certainly see this, and with an open mind.

Why? Because historically he may not have been as evil as he has been portrayed or because his body parts were falling off and he had a pet bat?

I just felt like the way they handled him was at odds with the overall feel of the rest of the piece.
Ah, okay.
From all I know about the movie, Dr. Facilier does has a different feel to him than the rest of the movie, though in Anastasia, it was fantastical vs. real, and in PatF, it's happy vs. dark. And everything I hear about Facilier is dark, dark, dark. I have friends who have seen the movie at the special engagements in NY and LA, and they've divulged a lot of details to me, including Facilier's death, which is probably one of the most, if not the most creepy and intense Disney death.
I mean, really. I felt creeped out just from them describing it to me. And yet the rest of the movie is light and fluffy.
Now, all that aside, I am WAY excited for this movie, obviously. :)

I'd love to see this in New York, but there's no way in hell I'm paying $30 for general admission. Still very excited, just not $30 excited.
There's a difference - Anastasia wasn't Disney. I haven't seen PatF yet, but I put my faith in Disney doing a better job than the clunky Anastasia!
Well of course Anastasia's not Disney. :) It was Fox, which sort of explains why the movie completely twists history and makes up its own reality.
I loved Anastasia's chemistry with Dmitri, though.
I LOVE Anastasia! It ties with The Prince of Egypt as the best non-Disney animated musical. And you can't say it's bad because it twisted history. Has anyone seen Pocahontas? They twisted the hell out of that story. I mean, Anastasia had mystical monks and Pocahontas had talking trees. And I love Disney laughably tried to make up for it in the direct-to-video sequel where she (properly) marries John Rolfe. When I was little, after watching Anastasia I still knew that the princess had still never been found. So yeah, Anastasia, in my opinion, is a great animated film. Great voice acting by Meg Ryan, John Cusack, Kelsey Grammer, Bernadette Peters, Christopher Llyod, Hank Azaria and ESPECIALLY Angela Lansbury (they should Oscars for voiceover work).
