Hi Aisy..
Why is it that society isn't happy unless they can put a label on you? not everyone fits into a type.. I guess it helps them to be more comfortable in themselves or something.
The way I figure it is, that they're trying to make themselves feel better about themselves.

Well, a stereotype or label means nothing unless you believe it....or at least I like to think
it's because it is easier for people to put you in a box, to categorize you with a simple word, to be able to associate a whole list of characteristics with a single word---think about it. society expects everyone to neatly fit into boxes, and if you don't you're weird.
a square peg in a round hole, if you will.
Kates- You do have a very good point. But, in the same respect, even if you don't believe it, they do. So in a way it does means omething to them, so they say it anyway.
I know, people just put a label on you and then even if you're different form what they think, you're already "marked"

I know what you mean dancing...I think you just hafta tell yourself that they're idiots and move on. I just always found it was a waste of valuable energy to worry about what other people thought. Someday they'll have their collective feet in their mouths
Exactly!
Hi everyone! I haven't posted on any thread here for awhile, so thanks for the welcome. People tell me I don't look like the type to have tattoos either. I'm 28 now and I got my first one when I was 18, and the first thing my mom said was "I've failed as a mother" So needless to say she doesn't like them very much. You can't really see any of them, except the one on my ankle, and sometimes my lower back. I'm thinking of getting some kind of Celtic knot next.
Fredi, a question for you. I sing opera and am seriously thinking of moving to New York, for a career in the theatre, musical or otherwise. My mom says that she thinks having too many tattoos could hurt my chances at auditions, like the directors would frown upon it or something. I know she's just saying that, but I'm curious about your opinion, being that you're a respected Broadway actress. What so you think? What does everyone else think too?
it's a good thing I dont tend to care what others think.. I just find it sad that people are so closed minded.. they are only hurting themselves..
I get what you mean. I don't even bother to argue stuff that much anymore, because peoplea re so close minded that they won't listen anyway.
Totally agree
Let's change the subject people
