God I am so not ready to go back to school. Plus I have to work on college essays. Ugh!
Ewww. Yeah, I'm not looking forward to going back either. Where are you applying, Racetrack?
Don't feel bad, Shub. We hardly noticed you left! *sniff* It's okay, today's my first day online in a while. And I'll be on here in abundance. *sigh*
HNY, by the way, to you and Race!
It's now 2005 here in Nebraska.
Of course, I had to do the cheesy thing and put on Seasons of Love/Happy New Year to celebrate. Maybe it's all the wine..
Here's to drinkning at home on New Years Eve. I've just been introduced to Bacardi tonight, and I hwar I'm having an encore of iced wine chased by champagne at midnigt. *shudder*
Oh, gee, thanks, Tiff Happy New Year to you too! And great icon :) I'm a little tipsy so I'm tearing up seeing it.
I'm at my friend's house and she's insisted I stay over, even though I think I'd rather go home and watch Sex and the City. However, now that I've ingested alcohol, it's not happening.
I've ingestex alcohol too. Feeling sick. Goddamn you Greeks! My uncle made me a wino! Which SatC are you watching? That's what I'm doing tonight too - Sex and the City seasons 2 and 3!
Ha HA!
I'm finishing up Season 3. I feel so bad for Charlotte! You'll find out why.
Shhh---This is the first time I've watched the series chronologically and I've only seen seasons 1, 2 and 6 - so i need to fill in the blanks. is season 3 the berger romance?
Nope. I will say no more.
I'm watching Penn and Teller's Bull****! right now. I'm going to have to get this off Netflix.
i was going to watch mystic river but i don't want to fall asleep before midnight. i have a bad history of drinking and that movie. what did you do tonight?
Oh God, I hated Mystic River.
I went to dinner with my family and ate delicious Italian food, then came over here and had caviar, champagne, and biscotti. YUM. Now I want ice cream.
sounds fabulous and muy glam! where did you have your countdown?
Friend's house, as I was ordering the Marx Brothers Silver Whatever Collection off BarnesandNoble.com...YEAH BABY.
What'd you do??
Oh you crazy party girl!
I chilled out here at home, hemmed and hawwed over going out tonight, weight my options, weighed my significantly lighter wallet, and decided to stay home tonight instead with my best friends Carrie, Sam, Mir and Char. Sort of sad, isn't it?
Are you guys starting on season 4 yet? I'm so glad to finally find people who watch Satc! (I joined the craze late.)
Not sad at all!!
I just started watching it as well. I'm completely addicted. I wish we could hang out and watch it together while drinking whatever it was you said you were drinking. My vision is too blurry to see where you said it.
s'okay hon. i just had a bit of this new magical creation called bacardi. fabulous drink, isn't it? it would be awesome if we could get together and drink - i know far too many sex and the city drinking games than are appropriate for my liver capacity. isn't it wonderfully addictive? does your friend have all the dvds?
(PS why is your vision blurry? been boozing it up too?)
Haha, definitely. One of us is going to have to get on a plane, though. The drinking game sounds fabulous! No, she doesn't have them - I've been getting them off Netflix. I feel like I should get some actual movies one of these days, though. My vision's blurry because my contacts are all dry. I'm also reading very funny reviews of the Phantom movie, and my eyes are tired.
are you hitting the sack soon? how's work been going? my contacts are drying out too - i keep forcing myself to yawn to re-moisten them to no avail. ugh. were are you reading the funny reviews? oh hey, did you see it yet?
https://www.phantommovie.com/recent.htm
Too F*CKing funny for words. Yep, I saw it. I sort of liked it, but I HATED Gerard Butler. I was so angry at the total lack of charisma he gave the Phantom. Plus, the man cannot sing. How about you?
I am going to go to bed soon, yep, as soon as I check my LJ
I couldn't STAND Gerard, really. Some of his acting wasn't too bad but I really, really hated his voice. The first time you hear him sing, my friends and I actually dissolved into giggles. And when he starts yelling at Christine when she first pulls off his mask, I actually went, "Get in my belleh!" (a la Fat Bastard). Way to go, for the French Phantom to have a SCOTTISH FREAKING ACCENT! Nice. Yeah.
Did you like Emmy and Patrick? I thought itwas the most beautiful (aesthetically speaking) movie I've seen. Emmy's singing wasn't too bad - I thought it was good for her age but I don't think her voice would wow any opera house! I thought she only had one expression though. Patrick was lovely (except for his hair). I ADORE Minnie Driver now.
Et tu?
I did like Emmy, once you get past the fact that, indeed, she would never wow in an opera house. I found Patrick totally boring, which was surprising, as I thought he'd be really great in this role. I did like Miranda Richardson, but of course she can do no wrong in my eyes (I'm conveniently ignoring Alice in Wonderland).
Gerard had one line - I forget where it was - where the Scottish accent totally popped out. Do you remember? I think it was one of those "ehhh" sounds at the end of a word that gave it away. I also hated how he shouted things, like "Down that path into darkness deep as HELL!" and how they had to lower the "I gave you my music" and "You have come here for one purpose and one alone..." parts for him. For God's sake, at least dub him with Hugh Panaro's voice! Ugh.
I loved the Overture. For the first time it really gave me chills. On stage, it's so quiet that you barely realize it's playing. I hate that.
Also, that Point of No Return mask revealed that his forehead was perfectly fine. Then, Christine rips off the mask, there was an OBVIOUS CUT IN THE FILM, and his entire face and forehead were...a little red. Oopsie. First of all, his face was FINE a couple of seconds before, and his disfigurement was about as bad as a sunburn I once got in the Bahamas.
Yeah, when the opening of the overture came on, and the theatre went into color---ohhhh man. I REALLY got shivers, and had a big dumb grin on my face.
Patrick was okay in the role, but the role is pretty thankless to begin with, so...meh. I've thought he's kind of overrated, but I saw a bit of Angels in America yesterday and he seems like he could be a great actor!
Don't even get me started on the inconsistencies in the film. The mask on his face was smaller than Lil Kim's pasty! What's up with that?? And did you notice how Emmy went from doe-eyed, make-up-less colt to sex kitten when she was taken into the lair?
Nevertheless, I liked it, at the very least because it was pretty to look at. Most of the singing was good.
Hey, have you seen Angels in America yet?
Oh, and these reviews are funny!
