Yeah, I just sit there and laugh to myself most of the time. And work on my fic when I'm supposed to be taking notes. I haven't studied for a single one of his tests all year and I have a 99% in his class.

And there are people who are failing.

I've only had one really oppinionated current events essay so far this year. I got a B+ because I "spent less time on the candidates opinions than my own" It wasn't my best writing, and i probably deserved the B+, and my Global teacher is really libral, but still....

For some reason, most of my techers like me, except my old math teacher and drama director *shudders*

My teacher this year doesn't really teach. He'll get going on something and then go ramble on some random tangent for ten minutes until someone reminds him that we're in the middle of a story or a paper. Then he wonders why we're so far behind other classes.

Oh, I never told him...figured he'd KILL me. Especially since I'd already gotten into an argument with him earlier that day. He wanted to teach his class that in "The Birthmark" Hawthorne was telling the world stem cell research is immoral. EXCUSE ME?? Oh, only...what, a hundred years before it even EXISTED?? He makes every single story about stem cell research being evil, Bush being divinely guided, or the war being righteous. I usually just try to ignore it, but my life pretty much depends on stem cell research being successful. I can't stand my teacher forcing his beliefs on the class. It's just wrong.

i come from a family of teachers and i can tell you it really can be a trip...

i think that's why there are so many people teaching who really shouldn't be...

it's really hard to get dedicated and gifted people to teach these days...

The kicker is that my mom used to teach AP English. And she had a 100% passing rate on the board exam for two years.

i don't know if we're ALLOWED to use cliffnotes, but i haven't told her. i mean, she's never said we can't, but never has recommended that we should. what she doesn't know won't hurt her. (but i WISH i could hurt her. demon teacher. she hates me. my friends in the class notice this too. she likes to give me these looks too. i never draw attention to myself in that class, never EVER raise my hand.) Fredi, no kidding. Teachers need tougher criteria.

NTG, that sucks. I wish I could say sorry and sound sincere.

yes, they do, som.

i think the major problem with schooling these days is the dependence on following a schedule and catering to standardized testing. you're supposed to mold children's minds, not make them testing machines.

This teacher I had back in the Middle School will probably be the best teacher I'll ever have. He taught "Enrichment" which is self explanitory. He challenged us, and made it fun. Hes really dedicated to teaching kids. I need to go visit him now, lol.

Beka, that's what I hope IB will do for me. I hate being taught to a test and I think there's a lot more to learning in school than memorizing dates.

The thing I hate about some teachers at my school is that they will talk about changing the curriculum to try and cater more towards prompting students to learn for the sake of learning, but then they will be incredibly rigid and unhelpful to so many students who are LIKE THAT and want to learn for the sake of learning.

It's really annoying, but thankfully I only have one teacher kinda like that this year.

To be honest, besides my parents- I have to say that teachers (good ones) have been the most influential people in my life. The good teachers I've had have been more inspiring than anyone else in my life...
meaning.. that teachers are important. what they teach is important- it really shapes us kids 1st Week of Rehersal....

i'm a member of SB. were you in that chat on 1/9?? madness. i haven't been on the site in a couple of days...

exactly, som, exactly. i HATE being taught to a test. we can never learn about something simply because it's interesting, it HAS to be on the test, otherwise its not worthy of learning. i HATE it.

i also hate the massive amounts of reading. in 8th grade i used to read 4 books a week. now i read 1 a month.

learning by rote (sp?) is so out-dated...

the whole "factory mentality" is gone -

the world of work has changed and so must the educational system...

that's why arts/ed is so necessary - when you get kids to be creative - it's amazing what they'll learn...
