oooh...I like it, NTG...and remember that the author is usually the harshest critic (as my Fiction Writing teacher told me this year), so don't worry, I'm sure your other stuff is great, too!

Fredi, it still nags at me... my cousin is an example. She's really preppy and clean cut, pleasant around adults and gets great grades, ect. It used to be that she was always a complete bitch to me but we got a chance to really talk until over winter break while on a family vacation this year. What bugged me about her was that she acted like such a ditz, but you can tell she really has a lot underneath it all. We had one of those open-up-and-spill-all kind of talks and I found out just how frustrated she was with the whole system of being perfect for everyone and all the fakeness of it... and she won't break out of it. I've been trying to talk to her and see if I can at least do something to help her, she's really stressed over school and being just right for all of her friends. She says she can't change or find out what makes her happy because people need her to be the way she is... it makes me sad. I hate to watch people live that way.
Anyone have any ideas on what to do? Sorry, total threadjack...

som, she needs to find something that she's totally confident in to improve her self esteem. once she's happy with herself the way she is, she can act like the REAL person she is, not the FAKE.
this is post 1755. how sad. i loathe the day i discovered this site. its such a love/hate relationship.

there's nothing you can do som - but live your own example of what you're trying to teach her..
*sometimes you have to let a drowning man drown - lest he drown you with him* (a hubbyism )
That's really a difficult situation, because she's sort of created a role for herself and now people have an idea of who she is. It's hard to break out of that, if not impossible. Does she want to stop acting like that? Or is it just so much a habit now that she doesn't?

She does actually care about her friends and such, but she doesn't really know who she is or what she really wants in life and she said that she feels like I get stuff that she doesn't and she wishes she knew what I did. Which was kind of odd for her to say... she always sort of belittled me.
Fredi, good advice from Mr. Browne, but I am terrible at doing taht kind of thing.
Star2b!!! You can confirm my horror stories about Mr. H...
Ok, one question and then I promise I'll shut up about it. Is the street talk better now? Or is it too much?

Fredi, I am! I passed jr. lifeguarding.
Sorry to dump, it's just been something I've been trying to figure out for a while... and I really don't know what I'm doing with this stuff. I have no experience with life.

ntg - it's certainly grittier and more "mimi-like"
try line with and w/o swearing and see what you get..
swearing is the "easiest" way to go "street" but there is an entire urban lingo you can explore...

NTG, do you know any Incubus fans who would loan you A Crow Left of the Murder? They have a song called Megalomaniac. Play that for him sometime.
Oh dear. Someone needs to be removed from his post. "MegalomanEYEac?"
correction BSoBW2, he's assiduously taking after the president
Why gawd why???
BSo--the president is his idol.
Speaking of which...my Spanish teacher made the FUNNIEST crack the other day.
Sra. C: We're having a guest in class tomorrow.
Student: President Bush?
Sra. C: Oh...now THAT would be an experience...in a foreign language...
