Dame, it's not so much that I want to upgrade for the sound. My 5.1 system is great, but it's also antiquated. It has no HDMI ports, only one optical port, etc. It's about 10 years old now. It doesn't have a PCM uncompressed output. I can only do Dolby Digital.

And I can't run everything through it, so I have digital switchers for the Dish, the BD player, my wireless iTunes, etc.

With the right receiver, I could plug everything into that instead. Plus it would be easier to operate.

But as far as "aural quality," I probably wouldn't be able to tell much of a difference.

Yes. Definitely worth upgrading for all those reasons. You will love having everything connected to one receiver through hdmi.
