'The Sound of Music' and 'The Wizard of Oz' Receive 2-disc Special Edition DVD Treatment This Fall!!

And I thought nothing would be better than my box set of 'The Wizard of Oz.'

Good thing I hadn't gotten Sound of Music yet.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

It appears as if Oz will only have a new commentary. I will happily live without it. What more can be said about Oz that hasn't already been said in its numerous other DVD and laserdisc versions? Corporate greed at its worst.

I always wait for the Special Editions, because I know they are coming.

Disney released Gold Collection DVDs in the late '90s, early '00s. Hardly any bonus features at all.

I waited, and sure enough Mary Poppins came out in a brilliant 2-disc set, as did many other titles.

I waited for THE TRUMAN SHOW, and that's coming in Special Edition.

I DIDN'T wait for Chicago - and now a 3-disc is coming. But Chicago is worth buying twice, to me.

Hahaha - no specifics yet, other than new interviews.

And I HOPE there will be new cover art for SOM. In the past three releases, I'm tired of seeing her on the mountain. New image, please!

"Does Julie Andrews come included because if she doesn't I ain't friggin buying it. "

Haha, Anne.

I heard about this last month and decided this is the reason I have been holding out on the SOM dvds (that and I am poor and my vhs is just fine!)

Bullcr@p. The edition I have has:

Disc One:
Running Commentary by Director Robert Wise
DVD Rom link to Sound of Music sute and events
Anamorphic Widescreen (Aspect Ratio 2:20:1)
Audio: English 4.1 Surround
English Dolby Surround
French Dolby Surround
Subtitles: English, Spanish

Disc Two:
Original 1965 documentary "Salzburg Sight and Sound" hosted by Charmain Carr. (36 min)
Documentary: The Sound of Music: From Fact to Phenomenon
with cast interviews, rare music outtakes, photos and more. (87 min)
Audio supplement by Ernest Lehman (36 min)
Interviews with Julie Andrews and Robert Wise
DVD Rom Games
Storyboard, sketches, production stills, Theatrical trailers, radio and TV spots.

Like I said if it doesn't come with Julie herself I'm not getting it.

Fox should really look into releasing Valley of the Dolls and Beyond the Valley of the Dolls here in the States instead of waisting time with yet another Sound of Music re-hash.

Today's issue of USA Today has a side article on the DVD re-release of "The Sound of Music"; the new edition (out Nov 15) is going to have a Julie Andrews/Christopher Plummer commentary along with a new documentary and an A&E special on the Von Trapp Family. I can't imagine buying this again just for those new features, but it might be fun to hear the commentary.
