I get along with very few people as is, so I do believe it has more to do with your social nature. And no one ever does things the way I want them (meaning done well).
Carnegie Mellon is actually the one I'm most worried about in terms of test scores (aside from Columbia, which I won't get into anyway) because they have crazy high standards and the SAT is more important there than it is as a liberal arts school.

I took the SAT twice. I scored the same on the verbal both times and improved slightly on the math the second time, although I'm horrific at math anyway.
Nia, I think I was under the wrong impression about Carnegie Mellon. It's a prestigious school; I think I was thinking of another university. What made you change your mind about possibly applying to NYU etc.?
Nia, have you found out your scores yet? If it's any help at all, I got a 770, 750, and 670 (guess which part that was :-P) and I got into all the schools I applied to except for Columbia (although my overall application for CU was not strong at all, so it probably wasn't the SATs).

Those are really good scores, Elphie. That's probably what I should shoot for. ETA- Scores will be up in one hour and six minutes!
Siamese, I always wanted to apply to those places, and even though there's a .005% chance I can go, I figure I may as well... recent events have taught me that strange, unexpected things can happen.

Doesn't CMU also have supplemental portions of the applications, too? I know they focus on those, at the schools that use them; you know, an extra writing sample or something. Their standards also vary *a lot* depending on what you say you would want to study there, and they put a TON of stock on their interviews, which I'm pretty sure they require.
They took a 1320 on the old SAT; 640 Math, 680 Verbal.
I do, Elphie. Let me crop them.
Honestly, I think that group work can be productive if it's not strictly graded. I've had classes that were mostly group discussion-based and the grades were based on participation rather than getting the "right" answer, and those have been some of the most fun classes that I've taken in college. Most courses are too assessment-based for that, though, and if you're a perfectionist then group work is definitely annoying.
Elphie, I don't have any good ones on the computer; I think the majority of them are at home. I'm sorry!
I love prom pictures.
I know a few people who got into CMU, but didn't get into places like NYU.

Wow, Elphie, those are great scores! I somehow managed a perfect score on the verbal twice (I HAVE NO CLUE HOW), but math? Um, let's just say that it was pretty low.
Ah, I see, nia. I thought that perhaps there was a better chance you were going to go there.
Completely random, but this is my teacher. Some of you may have seen this before. I... have a crush on him. Don't mock me. Heh.
I'm crossing my fingers for you, nia. Seriously.

NYU has indecipherable, strange standards.
That's so cute, Siamese. *patpat* Did you skip any on the verbal section?
I guess I'll just plan to retake. Might as well?

The most fun I've had in a group was in my leadership development course in grade 12. We were all put into groupe of three or four, and we had to come up with a program that would better the school. Our group took on birthdays. 1200 kids in the school. We got helium tanks donated, and balloons, and every day, we'd give out balloons, announce them over the PA. I think we did a cupcake day for the kids whose birthdays fell over the summer vacation. It was tons of fun, we made lots of friends, and my groupmates and I became known as the "birthday balloon girls".
He's so cute, Lexi! Seriously.
Good luck with the scores, nia!
I took my SATs 3 times. Painful, but worth it.
*crosses fingers for younger brother's SAT scores*
In case anyone is interested, here are a couple of pictures of my prom dress. Please ignore the less-than-stellar hairstyle:
You can get a perfect score and skip a couple, right?
And yeah, it really can't hurt to take it again. The *only* thing that you should keep in mind is that if you're weird and your score goes down, you can't keep that lower score from appearing when you send them to the schools, but the vast majority of people do better the second time. I'm just weird.
But it's always good to retake them at least once, since you have a pretty good chance of either going up or down within that 30 point range. And, it's good to be able to pull the highest scores and combine them.
It's okay, Em! Thanks for trying.
Nia, you haven't even found out your scores yet. Don't sell yourself short. For all you know, you got a 2400.
Pretty, BG! I like the ruffly...thing.
Nice pictures. :)
It can't hurt to take them again. I'll cross my fingers for you too.

No, I didn't, nia. I didn't study for the verbal section, either. It just strangely came naturally to me. The only tip of advice I could really offer on that section is to stay calm. Remember that all the answers are in the reading passages (obviously, vocabulary is a different story) -- unlike math, they're in there somewhere.
I hope I don't sound arrogant. Like I said, I did quite poorly on the math (i.e. poorly enough that I don't want to post it here!), so everyone has his or her strengths, you know? Obviously, if you're scoring in the 700s on the verbal section, you're quite adept at it as well.
Heh, thanks Ash. I'm so paranoid that someone is going to like, recognize him on here.
ETA: Jessica, that's a very sleek and sexy dress!

*nods* I'll retake. And I'm going to stay up to see the scores, because I really don't feel tired enough to sleep. I know I won't get perfect on any section, though.
I took the SAT once. I got a perfect score on the verbal and a 720 on the math. I didn't take them a second time because it's not like I could have improved on the verbal and I was happy with the math.
ETA: Aww, thanks for the compliments on the dress! I absolutely fell in love with it the moment I saw it. I wore it for a couple of special occasions after prom, but probably won't wear it again because the ruffles tend to get caught in chairs and I'm afraid of it ripping.

Nia, just as a word of advice, I stayed up to view my SAT scores as well. They didn't post them until 4 AM central time. Of course, that was a year ago.

On the PSAT I got a 760 writing, 730 reading and 540 math.
Wow, BG.
*feels stupid*
4 am? That's cruel of them. I ought to be going, I guess... I'll check first thing tomorrow.
You are smart, BG. And I like your signature!
I always had to wait an extra week or so to see my scores because I took the SATs on Sunday.
