The Varying Degrees of Awareness of Those That Frequent BWW

Again and again I am amazed by the lack of awareness of many posters on BWW.com.

It has been happening since I first started reading. How I loved the Matt_G faux Wicked News threads and how they used to go so far over the heads of the Wicklyns...

Now, with Million Dollar Baby the musical going ahead, and Britney gearing up to star in Wicked: The Movie Musical, a whole new generation of gullibility has arrived.

Does anyone just love to sick back and watch the layers of awareness. Those that are pulling the strings, those that sit and laugh, those that wonder if there are strings and those that don't notice anything at all?

I totally agree p_e...especially the Britney as Elphaba thread.

"OmG n0o0o0o0o0o0o!!!!111 brittanynynietny can't be elphie! she so can't sing lolz."

The sound of jokes whooshing over some people's heads is deafening.

Thanks...I heart Jimmy Fallon re: The Varying Degrees of Awareness of Those That Frequent BWW

But really...some people just make me ashamed to admit I enjoy Wicked. And even if the backwoods talentless barefoot tart that is Britney Spears were to be cast as Elphaba in a so far nonexistant movie, some grammar-impaired 11 year old isn't gonna change that with all of the exclamation points in the world.

I love to read those threads and see the reactions. It truly does make you laugh out loud.

People do tend to overreact to these. One girl went as far as saying, "Boycott the movie!!" (The Wicked Movie with Britney, that is). Can't imagine what some people would be like in real life.

Speaking as someone who's pretty gullible herself (and often doesn't see where the strings are being pulled), I can't say I'm completely enamored of the "haha, look at the stupid people" attitude. But if you're having so much fun, whatever.

But Plum, these are so obvious no one in their right mind could believe them...But they do...

Kristin Chenoweth as a black man. Hilary Duff writing the music, with Liza on lyrics...It's just impossible for me to comprehend how anyone COULD believe this.

And when they do it's hilarious!

I personally find some of them so ridiculous that i can't stop laughing! I mean hillary duff writing the music etc. It is not like it is subtle humor!
"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell plus i proudly share the title of the shortest member over the age of 10 with wickedrentq!

On the other hand, if someone posted something like: "Sondheim announces he has just finished writing Musical based on Groundhog Day" I might fall for it. It is based on some truth (I have heard he has been considering it) and not everyone announces how the creative process is going. So this would be a very subtle trick, and not funny at all. I would not be laughing.

So sometimes I can understand why the Wicked fans get upset at the tricks, because they are allowed to have their idols...but COME ON! USE SOME COMMON SENSE!
