Listening for the first time right now.
Such a Mary Martin sound at the start.
I love it.

Gov-Victoria Clark stood out a lot more. I loved both of their performances, but I don't think either one was better than the other.

Love Victoria Clark! Her performance in Piazza was tremendous. She does a terrific job with songs in the show's score and her accent is spot-on for someone from mid-state North Carolina. In Piazza, Victoria Clark's speaking voice sounds like Elizabeth Dole (who is from North Carolina). I'm truly happy for her Tony win. It was nice to see Victoria acknowledge her son in her acceptance speech.

Victoria and Norbert are both doing a lousy job hosting the Superficial awards.

Victoria: And the winner for Best Female Dancer...
Norbert opens the envelope
Victoria : Charlotte D'Amboise!
Charlotte start to go up, in tears and shock.
Victoria stares at envelope for a bit.
Victoria: Oh, dear Lord. Just kidding! Terribly sorry. The REAL winner is Chita Rivera! (Terribly sorry, Charlotte, dear.)
Norbert: (Great job, Victoria. We'll never get asked again. Atleast I said the right name.)
Victoria discretely steps on Norbert's foot.
This is my signature.

Who needs a nanny?
Move over Mary Poppins.

tee-hee. God, I love this woman. I'm listening to "Fable" right now.
I have to say, I wish she had a longer reprise of the title song to Piazza...how anyone can listen to that song and NOT hear gorgeous, grandfather-inspired melody is just beyond me.
Someone started a thread pairing Guettel songs with Sondheim ones, but I think the title song to Piazza would pair up so beautifully with something like "Some Enchanted Evening." And I'd kill to hear Victoria sing that.

Victoria Clark is amazing. I'm so glad she won.

I haven't seen her in Piazza (yet - maybe I'll get a chance when we go to NYC this August) but I was fortunate enough to see her as Dolly in the Pittsburgh CLO production of Hello, Dolly. She recieved some harsh reviews for underplaying the role... however I thought it was a rather refreshing take on the character. Though I must admit her comedic timing wasn't exactly spot-on.

Intriguing, as she has been semi-favored by Brantley, who I swear preferred her in Guys and Dolls over Faith Prince (Victoria understudied her).

The problem with Dolly is that the role is indelibly stamped with the stylizations of Carol Channing. Clark in no way resembles Channing in her acting style and it's going to, if not suffer, then be hard not to compare in that Channing light.

Everyone seemed to think that she didn't "command" the show the way she should have, the way Channing did. However I commend her for doing something different and finding her own interpretation of the character. Overall, it was a very good show. And my ticket was free, which made it even better.

She was absolutely marvelous as Ella Petersen when Pittsburgh's CLO did "Bells Are Ringing" about five years ago.

The next year she tried very valliantly to put some life into the most lifeless production of "Guys and Dolls" that I have ever seen.
