Bobby - Haha! I get what you're saying - but to add even more ridiculousness to our disconnect, I thought you were talking about the SIXTH SENSE in both statements - hence my confusion.

I LOVE this type of forum! re: 'The Village' - M. Night's Best?

The Village is probably my personal favorite.

Lady In The Water really wasn't *that* bad. I think I liked it more than The Sixth Sense. And I do sort of think that Unbreakable is undervalued.

The Village really impressed me in theaters and, as was the case with JohnBoy2, it withstood subsequent viewings as well. I personally find it to be his best, with Unbreakable being his worst. I'm not a fan of The Sixth Sense either and have yet to see Lady in the Water. The Happening was pretty decent in my book and I loved Signs. A few on here have said he tends to be preachy and I certainly agree with that, but his direction seems to approach situations from an angle that strikes the individual audience member from a distinctly personal place.

The cast in this film was also, to me, by far the best in any of his films. Even with Sigourney having to recite lines about "being mindful over our little ones," she still can do no wrong to me.

In a way I suppose it was, it was the most disturbing and thought provoking for me anyway.

Sixth Sense gets it for me every time, he'll be lucky if he pulls another one out of the bag to match this, let alone better it.

The great thing with human brains is they're fanless, nice and quiet although I'm sure mine whistles a bit sometimes.

I find it interesting how different everyone's opinions are. And it's nice to see a board where everyone's different opinions are respected.

Yea I really thought I was going to get bitched out for being a Shyamalan shill, but everyone's been cool so far. I don't know, there's just something about the time period they set the film in, the costumes, the scoring, the acting, the premise, it all just kind of hit the perfect note with me. Thanks for the great discussion everyone!

I love his work. I just saw The Happening, for the second time, last night. Just love it. He is one of two directors who guarantees my ass in a theater seat.

I enjoyed all of Shyamalan's films thus far except Unbreakable. I haven't seen The Happening yet, but I'm hoping to see it this weekend if it is still running. I found Lady in the Water to be a charming and woefully underrated film.

I thought The Sixth Sense was far and away his best film. Three great performances, with special kudos to Haley Joel Osment, who should have won the Oscar that year (even the winner, Michael Caine, admits that).

I hated The Village. Also disliked The Happening. For a film called The Happening, not very much happened.

Other than Sixth Sense, I enjoyed Signs a great deal.

My main issue with The Village was that it came off like the entire movie was structured just for the purpose of fooling the audience.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

I like The Village to some extent but it's not my favorite M Night film. I actually like Signs the best. And I did enjoy Lady in the Water. It wasn't at all what one would expect since all the trailers and promos would have you believe it's a horror movie and it absolutely was not. But I still enjoyed it for what it was.

The Happening is the only one of his films I did not like

So, The Village. I dig the story, I think the acting is good. But the dialogue is a little awkward and doesn't flow that well. The music's good though :)

He is the best at creating an atmosphere that I really like, in all his films.

The Village kind of let me down. I usually enjoy all of his movies, but this one to me was one of his worst. The ending was disappointing.

If we are looking at his best film yet, I would say The Sixth Sense. Easy.
