The Walk

I saw it today, IMAX and 3-D. Even though I have seen the documentary (which I thought was fascinating) this movie literally took my breath away. The beginning is a little talky but the story builds well and Joseph Gordon-Levitt is totally believable as a wire walker. The supporting cast was uniformly excellent, and the recreating of the then-newly built Trade Towers is heart-breaking. The only niggling thought I had - why wasn't there more indication of the winds at that height, since they were known to be fierce and unpredictable. Still a thrilling movie experience.

No it's not a brilliant script, but yowza, it's what great moviemaking feels like to me. I too had seen the MAN ON WIRE doc, but frankly this film gave me a much more thorough understanding of the details and step-by-step intrigue that went into the executing of that historic walk. The central hour of the movie is just thrilling, sort of in the way that GRAVITY was thrilling a year or two ago. And, wow, what solid design work! Between the built sets and CGI extensions, you swore the towers had come back to life in all their glory. And the final lines were beautifully commemorative. No, not everyone will like it (my husband found it very schmaltzy and didn't believe Joseph Gordon Levitt for a minute), but I say job well done!

Being terrified of heights (still, even after skydiving twice), just seeing the trailer was all; "Hell to the NO!"

I thought Man on Wire was pretty fantastic, which makes me think this film is kind of unnecessary. I hear the last 20 minutes are pretty amazing, so I'll be seeing it. There's a line in the ad, where he says (in a not so great French accent) "you love me because I am mad," which sounds so cheesy to me. I'm sure I'll see it. 3D seems like a must for this movie.

Well, I saw it. The final 20 minutes are glorious. I can't believe someone actually walked between the towers. And he didn't just walk... Well, I won't spoil just in case someone hasn't seen Man on Wire. It is truly incredible. So, basically the last 20 minutes are astounding... It made me cry. Everything leading up to the ending, is pretty cheesy. Most bothersome is that JGL periodically narrates the film from atop the Statue of Liberty. Oh. My. God. It is so awful. I recommend it anyway.
