The almost-finished opinion story!

How does this sound? I feel that I need one more good paragraph. What other good points could I mention?

Ever since I was a young boy, life has been hard for me. Living in _________ has not been easy, due to its strong love for sports. Of course, I played Little League baseball because I “had to” and when I was old enough to realize I did not like it, I was worried I would hurt my dads’ feelings or make him ashamed. If your son plays a sport, everyone befriends you. Only if he is good, that is. This may have changed since then, but I still see the same things occur today in high school sports. I thank God for giving me the courage to stop playing sports. This gave me the oppurtunity to discover the most important thing in my life: theatre.

Now that I am old enough to realize it, Tallmadge does not support the arts, as it should. I am not just referring to theatre, but visual arts, dance, music, etc. This makes me very upset. Many people do not even give them a chance. I hope by the time I leave this wonderful city and move to a bigger and better place that does support them, the arts will be looked at with the same open mind as athletics.

Do not get me wrong. I do support athletics. My friends that play them probably have the same goals as me: they want to make it big by using their talents and what they love to do. I have attended a good number of football games and actually sat and watched the game. I even attended the game against Wadsworth when it was pouring down rain. I was not the only one there in the rain. The stands were full of supporters! It was fantastic. Now only if the Dynamics Community Theatre did not have to worry about selling the center section of the _______ (number of seats in LBC)-seat LBC. I see principal Jeff Ferguson and assistant principal Mike Householder up in the announcer’s booth more than an hour before the game begins. If I remember correctly, Ferguson arrived late to Oliver!, the spring musical.

I was told this month that I was not allowed to write my national tour article that appeared in last month’s issue. If you did not get a chance to read it or did not want to read it, it featured two national touring Broadway productions. It gave dates of when the show will be in town, a description of the show and where you can buy tickets. I was planning on including this every month. Two new shows for each month. The only way I could was if I hid it between many other concerts and entertainment happenings. That is a wonderful idea and I appreciate Mrs. Headrick for attempting to broaden my horizons, but I do not think she sees what I am trying to do. I want this information to stand out and catch student’s attention. They need to learn about events other than rock concerts and sport schedules. They need to learn about the arts. They need to support the arts.

Once again, I do support athletics. It makes those who play them happy, and those who view them excited. But what I think most people do not realize is that the arts can do the same thing. I just do not think people give them the chance. I understand that some have given them a chance and still dread them, and I respect that. For those who have not given them one, I am asking you to do so. Please support the arts and those who participate in them. You will most likely not be disappointed.
