The case for correct spelling

I am so very tired of hearing people complain that they are picked on because they "can't spell". Spelling isn't inherent. It is learned. And for those who find it difficult, and even for those who don't, god has given us Dictionary.com. There really IS no excuse for chronic misspelling as it is caused by laziness. If you're not sure that you spelled a word correctly, look it up. I consider myself to have a fairly good grasp of spelling and grammar, but rarely does a day go by that I don't stop to look something up to make sure it is correct.
And while I'm on a roll, let me also mention that your words are going to be treated with the gravity and respect with which you craft your message. I skip over any message that is written in AIM-speak shorthand. If the writer doesn't care enough about what s/he is saying to make it coherent, then I don't care enough to read it.
Edited to take the hyphen out of "misspelling". I looked it up, and I was wrong.

Spelling, papa. Not punctuation.
It's not always about you.

Definitely is one of those words that I had to look up a gazillion times before it finally sank in. Emergency is another one that I misspelled for years. Kind of ironic, me being a nurse and all.
And Papa, I may have plied you with liquor on occasion, but NEVER with opiates. Let's keep the facts straight, okay?

just planting seeds, flitty, planting seeds. y'know, just in case.
**edit**
now that ya throw the nurse thing out there, i feel compelled to say for the record that iflit has never plied me with with nor provided access to any form of opiate. no matter how much i've beggged, pleaded, wheedled and cajoled.

I think people are obsessing over things that don't need to be obsessed over.
This is a theatre board, not a spelling/grammar board. If a sentence is not written like this, it's not appropriate:
OMG y isNt there NE peeps here woo lyke Mi Riting. Lyke ur soo crazii nd b4 it was fuN on dis boord butt Nuw U all R PiSsin me nd mi frends off.
If you can read a sentence and comprehend it, leave it be. I'm not about to go to dictionary.com everytime I'm not sure how to spell a word. If you're obsessed with correct grammar on a theatre board, that's sad. I'm not here to learn English, I'm here to talk about the love of theatre, something we all have in common. I'm sure when there is an important document we need to write, we make sure all spelling and grammar is correct. This board is not an important document.
Hopefully can read and understand what I wrote. If you don't, then you have a problem.

So you're content with remaining ignorant, then?
And one would think you of all people would want to see the English language used correctly.

I am not ignorant. When I am typing something important, I use microsoft word and use spell check.
BWW is supposed to be fun; I'm not about to worry about my spelling/grammar when I have to do that so many hours of the day.
Can you read and understand my posts? If the answer is yes, then there should be no problem.
If the answer is no, YOU have a problem.

If you don't know how to spell a word and don't bother to find out, you are remaining ignorant.

How can discussion about theatre (or anything) be possible if one doesn't understand what another is saying?
And a lot of browsers now have quick access to Dictionary.com in the top bar. Takes all of two seconds.
