" MIAMI (AP) -- Gerard Damiano, director of the pioneering pornographic film that lent its name to the Watergate whistleblower known as "Deep Throat," has died. He was 80.
After "Deep Throat" opened in Times Square, word from media critics and outraged conservatives made it a hit.

I remember him more for "The Devil in Miss Jones," which was a far better movie and featured a performance by Georgina Spelvin that is in a class by itself among adult films.
Forget the sex...try not to be affected by the first 10 minutes.

Hoist one for Gerry. And Linda.
And I'd still hoist Harry.

Posted: 10/28/08 at 2:40pmI saw DEEP THROAT in Copenhagen (I kid you not), and I was a stupid barely-legal tourist who didn't know that the cheapest seats in Danish theater, like many in Europe, are in the front, not back. I had planned to hide in the last row, but had to sit front n'center, amid a small bevy of Great Danes, all wearing damp rain slickers (!). Afterward, I went to Tivoli and had sausage and beer.

Last I heard, Harry Reems was a real estate broker in some small town in the Northwest (Idaho? Montana?).
All I know is, if I was driving through some town and saw the Century 21 sign on some lawn saying "Contact Harry Reems", I would NOT be able to resist the urge to come back after dark and steal that sign.
