You weren't sentient during the Reagan years- and depending on the thread, possibly not even alive. So let me tell you about Ronaldus Maximus. Amiable Dunce? Sure. Except for the amiable part. Now, in retrospect it seems perhaps he was already showing the signs of Altzheimer's when he was unable to recall trading arms for hostages or other minor details. A more cynical man might say that he was metrly practicing the Republican Strategy perfected by his vice presient's son: Lie, Lie, Lie, Deny Deny Deny.

When Carter was in office, before Reagan trounced him, his rating was really low.

And it looks like Reagan still beats up that stupid little punk Carter.

He's not my hero, although I do admire much that he's done. I think I told you long ago that I have no hero's in politics. However, speaking of apples and apples, since GWB is doing such a great job, why aren't his ratings higher? Can you explain that.

Feel free to educate me.

He was a man who didn't act when he could have made a huge impact saving the lives lost to AIDS, including my college roomate. His slashing of student loan & social security programs was directly responsible for me not being able to continue my college career. He traded arms for hostages and negotiated with terrorists for the first time in American History. He ran up a huge federal debt, a lot of it on a pie in the sky "Missile Shield" that was (and still is), completely impossible to implement.

He was a first rate hypocrite- preaching religion without attending church, foisting off "Family values" on the rest of us despite not being able to recognize his own children. Of course, he also preached those family values despite having two families- one with Jane Wyman he rarely saw and one with Nancy Davis he rarely saw.

He also was "Anti-government" despite increasing the size of government and "Anti Tax" despite raising the tax burden on the poor. He WAS consistantly "pro-rich" cutting the top tax rate from 70% to 28% in 7 years. No wonder his wealthy friends bought him a house and made sure he made millions in "Speaking fees" so he could live out his life in unimaginable luxury.


So go ahead, tell me about this president you love so much.
