re: The worst remake of a song you've ever heard

Jessica Simpson should be smacked for even attempting to remake "Boots"
Her and her husband also ruined "A Whole New World" from Disney's "Aladdin", they can't hold a candle to Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle's original radio version. (Notice I wrote RADIO version as I am well aware that the song is song in the movie by Lea Salonga and Brad Kane, okay?)

Pebo and Regina were on the soundtrack as well.

"All the while making faces like a baby platypus who forget to take some Beano before eating a chimichanga." FindingNamo in reference to Jessica Simpson's singing.

any remake of any beatle song (ESP michael buble's terrible "can't buy me love") with the exception of the version of "a little help (from my friends)" that was at woodstock. that was a cool version. also a few years back some rock band tried to remake the 60's classic "last kiss" and it very much angered me. there's also a band called the hippos that takes 60's songs and ruins them. i disagree with the "somewhere" slap- i think babs' version is excellent, really comes at it from a different angle. i supossed i'm bias because i'm such a big fan, but the sound effects really make it feel other-wordly. like they're escaping... somewhere.

I dug up Charlotte Church's "Enchantmente" today. Ugh...how did I ever like her. Life before Audra, I tell you.

Listen to her version of "If I Loved You," if you dare. "Somewhere" is dull.

She's just a dull singer. Thank God she dissipated into obliteration.

That's a toss up between Brittany's 'My Preogative" or Madonna's "American pie"
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

Forester, I'm with 1000%. Madonna's version of American Pie is by far the worst cover I've ever heard. I'd rather listen to William Hung sing the National Anthem.
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be enbered with your old nonsense. ~ Emerson

Seasons of Love by Stevie Wonder. One critic said that it sounds like he is being castrated.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

OMG, Forester! I totally forgot about that! Yeah, it was pretty wretched.

And I agree to an extent w/ Love4Cheno about CC's Big Yellow Taxi, though the version w/o Vanessa Carlton was significantly less horrendous. Her "mmmm-bop-bop"s made me want to scratch my eyes out! Utterly cringeworthy!
But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)

I've heard it on the radio a couple of times, and I'm always expecting her to come in, but I think they replace her w/ a harmonica! It's so SO SO much better!

Speaking of Vanessa Carlton, how about that god-awful cover of “Time Is On My Side” she did for those Time-Warner commercials this past spring, sounding for all the world like a twelve-year old girl in her sixth-grade talent show.

aw, I ADORE Vanerssa Carlton and her singing in Big Yellow Taxi!!

The WORST would have to be Britney's My Pregorgative (sp?) It's just....gah!! Jessicas Boots cover is pretty bad but not as bad as Brit. I'm sure there's more i'll think of later...

Kelly Osbourne - Like a Virgin
The Brady Bunch - American Pie (far worse than Madonna)
The Communards - Don't Leave Me This Way (Jimmy Somerville sings flat in nearly all of his awful falsetto)

Maybe Vanessa’s producers should consider that the next time she’s recording in the studio; just drop her vocals altogether and throw in a harmonica. Can’t hurt!

Love4Cheno - I wasn't going to go there. All the William Shatner/Leonard Nemoy covers can be listed as one entry. Ditto for Wing and Mrs. Miller.
