Sorry to post a thread on here that's related to a purely personal issue, but I didn't know where else to vent.
My husband and I are moving to Afghanistan in a few weeks. We'll be there for two years.
Yes, I'm going to miss my family, and the comforts of home, and the little things like fresh produce and public parks and movie theaters. Yes I'm worried about our safety, and about missing out on things back home.
But the thing I that I will miss the most, and which I will worry about missing out on the most....is Broadway. I will miss two whole seasons of new shows.
I can skype with my family. I can have them ship me my favorite foods. There's nothing I can do about missing out on shows except keep up to date with the news and chatter on BWW.
Sorry to whine, but as fellow theater lovers I hope that some of you can understand.
What's in Afghanistan?
Work. He's going to be there with the US Agency for International Development. I'll be with the US Embassy.

I'd think that the worst thing about moving ot afghanistan would be the constant fear of death.
Great food, though!
I love the Boulanee Kadu at Khyber Pass on St. Marks place and the Afghan Kebab House.
The fear of death is minimal. We'll be locked up in the embassy compound.
And I'm not sure how much Afghani food we'll get. We'll be doing most of our eating at the commissary.

"We'll be locked up in the embassy compound"
Sounds like prison.
Yikes.
becuase we've never lost an embassy.
There is a big Canadian Armed Forces contingent there now. You can get Tim Horton's Coffee and Doughnuts!
