I decided for my birthday, I am getting my first tattoo!
I want it to be a short theater related quote or from a show, or most preferably, from a shakespeare play (Something small, like around my ankle or on my hip)
I was thinking of getting
"To Thine own self be true" from Hamlet
or "Some people care too much, I think It's called love" from Winnie THe pooh, but thats totally not theater related....
But I know something shakespeare related would be something I wouldn't regret.
Any suggestions?
kudos to those who give awesome ideas

I have 5, I thought about them for a very long time, each time, because I knew they would stay with me.
Since you are young....what you may want today may not be what you want in 10 years, and trust me things change.Think about it even longer.
It should have meaning to YOU...and usually trite lines are a passing fancy......
Just think about it....I have seen way too many people sorry for what they ended up with, as things change.
In the end, it is your decision.

Polonius, the character who says it, speaks mostly in vague, meaningless platitudes, and is largely in the play for comic relief. The speech that it's in is one long set of contradictory advice, "be not too much this, but neither too much this," and such. After all the bad advice he gives, "to thine own self be true" is more an ironic punchline than anything else.

Posted: 1/4/08 at 12:16amThank you for that, scott68, that's just what I was going to say. For some reason (probably because they haven't actually read Hamlet) people don't realize that "to thine own self be true" is supposed to be hypocrisy. I'm sure Shakespeare would think it was hilarious to see people have that line tattooed on their body.
