Theatre at Ithaca#1

I'm a senior in high school and am looking into continuing my theatre education in college. I've have looked in to various colleges (I.E. Shorter, Western Carolina, Etc...) Ithaca seems to have everything I'm looking for. I was wondering if anyone could give a little information on their theatre program. Also, is it possible to major in Musical Theatre and also play sports (football or tennis)? Also what is the application process like? Do you apply academicly then try out for the theatre program? Do you audition to get into the college? I don't know anything about it so any information is appreciated. THANKS in advance.

I know that this probably doesn't help you at all, but I have to put my two cents in. My only experience with Ithaca is that I applied there, sent in my tape and all (I couldn't audition in person)...and I didn't get anything from them at all. Not a SINGLE letter. Not a rejection. Not an acceptance. Nothing. I didn't like that very much.

i also had a bad experience with ithaca. one day before the final day of mailing in your application adn such, we called to make sure everything was okay, and it wasn't. i was apparently missing something and they had never bothered to call or e-mail me within the 2 months before when i had sent it in....personally i had a bad experience and I'm glad i chose elsewhere

it sounds like you need to get in touch with ithaca college yourself. these are questions that can be answered by email to an admissions officer or by visiting in person.
OR try this first.

I'll try to be of some help. I'm at Ithaca double majoring in scriptwriting and BA drama. If you were in a BFA program (theatre or musical theatre) I wouldn't count on having a whole lot of extra time for sports.

From what I can remember, Ithaca wasn't much different than any other school I applied to. You have to write a couple of essays about yourself or an experience or whatever, and send in your SAT or ACT scores. You don't have to get into the school as a whole first (I don't think, I could be misremembering). I think if they accept you into the program that means you're accepted into the school, as long as you don't have really terrible grades.

The thing I don't like about the theatre department is that it can be kind of snobbish (I'm talking the theatre offices and higher-ups, the kids and teachers are great and very nice). That's probably why people didn't hear from them and everything, you definitely get the air of "we don't need you because we're such a great program" from them. But once you're in the program they take really good care of you and are quite helpful. It really is a very good program.

I hope that at least helps a little bit. If you have some other questions feel free to PM me and I'll try to answer them. Good luck!
