Their Eyes Were Watching God

Anyone watching/planning on watching?
I want to write music. I want to sit down right now at my piano and write a song that people will listen to and remember and do the same thing every morning...for the rest of my life. - Jonathan Larson. Tick, Tick...BOOM!

re: Their Eyes Were Watching God

I have to read the book later this semester. Does that count?

re: Their Eyes Were Watching God

Nope..hated the book. No intentions of watching Halle Berry hyperventilate her way to an Emmy in the movie.

Read the book in 10th grade and was one of the few who actually liked it. I'm taping the movie and will probably watch it tomorrow morning.

re: Their Eyes Were Watching God

I have it on, but it's not keeping my interest. I think Halle Berry is one of the must untalented, overrated actresses. I can't beieve that she won an Oscar for the abominable MONSTER'S BALL...I find her performances always amateur and very underwhelming.

I have it on right now and I think Halle Berry is wonderful in the role. This will obviously get an Emmy Nomination and win.

She probably will win, and I'm sad. I really want S. Epatha Merkerson to win.

re: Their Eyes Were Watching God

I don't think she's good at all. I haven't seen her in one movie that impressed me.

re: Their Eyes Were Watching God

I never saw "Monster's Ball," was she not good in it? I remember seeing a clip during the Oscar ceremony, and she was really good in it. Maybe it was just that one scene of good acting? lol

re: Their Eyes Were Watching God

I HATED the book, but the movie isn't so bad. I think Halle is doing a good job with the character, tho.

re: Their Eyes Were Watching God

I just keep thinking of the commercial for this, which made me laugh. Oprah is like, "my favorite love story of all time, and Halle Berry in a role she was booooorn to play."

i hate halle berry!!! Oh and i agree melissa errico fan. I want s. epatha to win. She was just amazing!!!
"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell plus i proudly share the title of the shortest member over the age of 10 with wickedrentq!

re: Their Eyes Were Watching God

I think she's one of the most talented actresses out there. She most certainly deserved her Oscar for her performance in "Monster's Ball". I do question her choices of roles as of late: "Catwoman"?
But overall she's impressed me time and time again with her abilities.
On the other hand an actress who I truly believe is so over-rated is Hilary Swank. I mean another Oscar? And for "Million Dollar Baby"? Please. Everyone knows that Oscar belonged to Annette Bening. Talk about highway robbery.

I read over the summer in high school. I didn't really like it. I read it more recently and enjoyed it much more.

i read the book in 8th grade and thought it was okay.

i'm not sure if i want to watch the movie if the preview is just a bunch of clips showing halle making out w/ teacake. or do i? haha.

re: Their Eyes Were Watching God

While Halle Berry is sweet and agreeable, she just doesn't do it for me. She kept almost getting there in MONSTER'S BALL, but never quite took it above "Good." The only reason she won was because that was a VERY weak year for actresses.

Marquise: You make it seem as if it's Swank's fault for Bening's loss. Both were brilliant, Swank's certainly the most commercial. I would have voted for Bening, but I am a HUGE fan of Hilary Swank. I think she's one of the very few mainstream actresses today that deserves absolutely every success that comes her way. Her performance in BOYS DON'T CRY is one of the best performances in the history of film. I'm not directing this all at you (since you didn't say she didn't deserve to win for BDC,) but I'm just saying.

Halle certainly has her moments. Personally, I found her the best part of MONSTER'S BALL, but that is hardly saying anything - that movie was absolutely terrible. I find her performance on TV right now to be LEAGUES better than anything she's ever done on film.

I do agree that Hilary Swank did deserve her Oscar for "Boys Don't Cry". She gave an amazing and moving performance in that film. There's no doubt about that.

I have to say, this is one of the most boring things I've ever tried to watch in my life.

Munkustrap, you are so contradictory, a severe sign of haterism. Let's keep one opinion please.
I love this movie. I think they did a very good job with it.

I personally enjoyed it. I was happy it stuck to the text. I love Hurston, one of my favorite authors. Good Job!

What are you talking about? Haterism? That's not a word. I said I wasn't all that impressed with Halle Berry as an actress, but her work in TEWWG are superior to anything I've seen her do on film. That's no contradictory - perhaps you need some more english classes or something. Have a reason for being an obnoxious racist bitch before you say something that makes you look stupid.

HATERISM. Great word, Tonya. Shows how smart you are...

I liked the movie... though it didn't keep my interest 100%. (me and my ADD) I thought it was well acted... I do love Halle... and a very nice love story. Not THE BEST, but very nice. I liked it. Now... give me back my housewives!

re: Their Eyes Were Watching God

But what happened? I must've missed something, because all I know is that she shot teacake and then she was back at the big house again. The climax was very weak...

But I did find her good, and good looking...but overall just a "film made for television".

re: Their Eyes Were Watching God

It felt like during filming they thought "Shoot... we're already 2 1/2 hours... we need to finish this thing!". I don't know if the book finishes so abruptly too.
