1984 B

Suzette Charles
Mays Landing, New Jersey

Suzette delighted her home-state fans in the audience as the talent winner representing New Jersey in The Miss America Pageant of 1984, and as everyone was quick to see, her performing career was very well established already. Even as a youngster, Suzette was a dedicated and accomplished performer, having appeared in various commercials and educational TV programs. After Suzette's service as Miss America 1984, she continued her successful singing career. Suzette has appeared in superstar theaters with performers such as Stevie Wonder, Alan King, Joel Grey, Lou Rawls, and the list goes on! Her pop singing career has taken her around the world from Jamaica to Monte Carlo. Wed to ophthalmologist and plastic surgeon, Leonard Bley of New York, Suzette is also the proud mother of young daughter, Hannah, and son Ilan. She says her motherhood role, "has turned the entertainer in me into a wonderful wife and mother. It is such a rewarding profession."

That is the rumor Robb.

Boobs, she lives in northern NJ is the wife of a doctor (Robb is correct) and a mother. She performs occassionally.

Did you know that she is half Italian and that her real last name is DeGaetano. Suzette Charles was a stage name. Yes, she used a stage name at Miss America! Love it!!

And she blew Williams out of the water in the talent competition. But Williams walked around that stage like she owned it. That couldn't NOT give her the crown.

I also love the girl that danced to the theme from FLASHDANCE and the poor, poor girl who sang Liza's rendition of SHINE IT ON.

She got my vote just for having the guhunga's to wear that big ass purple flower on her shoulder.

That "dance" was a Jazzercise routine -- she must have gotten 10's in interview or blown a judge.

I know this gal (Miss America's were gals back in the day) who attempted to sing like Betty Buckley in a pageant. Yikes! But her singing coach ... DIVINE

SOMMS..I believe Suzanne took Charles because it's her Dad's 1st name..just like my other guinea girlfriend (Lazarra) took Peters in honor of her Dad's name.

BTW...did Suzanne ever release an album?

Remember Kay Lani Rae Rafko of 1988?
She's the first that pops up in my working memory.
She was from Michigan, just like me.
And she played a really random instrument in her talent portion.
Something similar to a xylephone, I think.
But I was about 4, so I might be wrong on that.
She was the coolest.
I starred in a short film called Magnetic Personality. Check it out!

Kaye Lani Rae did the hula for her talent. That girl could shake a poi ball. Her evening gown was a reconstructed wedding dress that she bought for ten bucks. I love her and spend time with her every year in Atlantic City. SOB!!!!!!!!!!!

re: There She Was ... Miss America

Ahhh...
A Michigan girl doing the hula.
And one who has the sense to buy at discount prices.
That's fabulous.

Wait, who am I thinking of with the xylephone thing?

re: There She Was ... Miss America

Dr. Debbie Turner. I just had dinner with her in June in Rehoboth Beach at the Miss Delaware pageant.

re: There She Was ... Miss America

Wasn't Debbie Turner, Marta in THE SOUND OF MUSIC? I know nothing about Miss America, except that it's some kind of competition. I have a friend who's vowed to never watch it again because they "ruined it" by all but eliminating the talent portion. Or so she says.

BTW..I thought Debbie Turner was an ice skater?
