Chiwetel Ejiofor! I'm THERE!
Although I always cry a whole bunch at disaster movies. I can't help it, I just feel really sorrowful at the thought of all those lovely buildings being destroyed.

Who knew the Empire State building was smack dab in the middle of 5TH AVE? in Day After tomorrow I love how the Tidal wave came from Mainland Jersey, to sneak up behind the Statue of Liberty, took a left up the East river and another sharp left up 41st Street.

Small Nitpick, the Boomer being saved scene is no in the lincoln tunnel. They're supposed in to be in LA somewhere. (at least I think they are, since they supposedly live in the hills around LA.)
PS.. 2012 looks so deliciously tacky and destructive.

What's really interesting is why people feel the need to watch disaster movies.
(yeah - I know - I shouldn't post when I'm drunk)

The only thing more contemptible than disaster movies is TIDELAND.
This from someone who loves the cinema of Lars Von Trier, Catherine Breillait and many other "difficult" filmmakers.
Gilliam is Gilliam. That being said, BRAZIL and FEAR & LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS are two films I adore and have seen more times than I'd be willing to admit.
TIDELAND is one of the most frustrating, pointless and mean-spirited movies I have ever seen and one of only a handful that have ever made me physically violently angry.
Gilliam's movies are all the same in some strange way. And not in the Tim Burton or Scorsese way either, where you can tell who's directing the movie. I could list of twenty or thirty shots that repeat in every one of his movies.
P
P.S. PARNASUS got booed at Cannes. You know you've lost your directorial touch when a film starring Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Heath Ledger's last film appearence is met with that kind of reaction. He will never top BRAZIL, even if DON QUIXOTE is made.

So, Joe, am I right in thinking that, because Adam didn't win AI, is the beginning of the end of the world?
Figures...

I tend to steer away from "the world is ending" films. I just don't care for them. Though, I do like a decent disaster film. Call me weird lol
I recently saw Daylight for the first time. It was on late night television and I decided to give it a chance. It was made during the period where no one was taking Stallone seriously. So I was prepared to find it totally stupid.
Well, I actually enjoyed it. I ever got teary at some points - especially when the dog's chain broke. There's that dog again!
Does anyone remember Dinner and a Movie? They'd show a movie and teach a recipe in between. They were showing Single White Female and they were discussing why the audience gasped when the dog died but not when people did. My answer, in that particular case, was because the dog was a puppy. Killing a puppy is akin to killing a baby. And the puppy was inherently innocent. The people killed in that movie had it coming. But the puppy did nothing other than be there and be important to Bridget Fonda's character.

The trailer to 2012 just looks stupid,in my opinion.
However, through the power of creative editing, the same trailer looks AWESOME!
The new and improved trailer to 2012. I think it's a major improvement!!!

Day After Tomorrow was on tonight. I managed to catch the part where the old Scottish Scientist and Dennis Quaid figure out that this storm is going to change the face of the planet! It's another ICE AGE! Get out other before it is too late!
Ah, but it IS too late, my friend.
Exquisite.

And then later on Jake Gyllenhall literally outruns the ice age. And somehow running into the Library and slamming the door *just in time!* keeps it at bay.
Brilliant!
