I have no idea why but when they show the final reveal I got kind of choked up.

It certainly wasn't the most poignant ending they could have gone with, but something about it really touched me.

I had been half convinced the singer was Tim Minchin until reading the article.

What a nice commercial- and an interesting tactic. Instead of playing on people's emotional attachment to things they remember and are nostalgic for, creating a feeling of emotional attachment and nostalgia for a brand-new thing is at least something new.
