You must do the math in your head. No pencil, paper, or calculators.
Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000. Now add 30. Now add another 1000. Now add 20. Now add another 1000. Now add 10. What is the total?

Take 1000 and add 40 to it.
= 1040
Now add another 1000.
= 2040
Now add 30.
= 2070
Now add another 1000.
= 3070
Now add 20.
= 3090
Now add another 1000.
=4090
Now add 10.
= 4100

Ah, got it. I accidentally mistook 100 for 1,000 when doing the final addition. Nice trick.
ETA: Well, that's why I shouldn't add things in my head. :P

I DON'T get it...how could you possibly end up with 5,000? It's 4,100! Don't you know how to count! It's JUST addition - something you learn in kinder garten! You're such a loser!
