I was having lunch yesterday with my Roundabout subscription friends yesterday at St Andrews on 44th St. My friend Jessica who is a teacher was telling us how her students perceive her as being on another level.
I recalled back in 1974 seeing my economics professor in the cafeteria and saying to him "You eat?" and he laughed at said "Yes."
We finished lunch and I went outside to call my sister. Just then my old economics professor walked by with his family and said "Nice to see you!" and continued on probably having seen some show.
That's weird.

That is weird!
Yesterday I was cleaning out all my old books and came across The Glass Castle, which I read a couple years ago. I blew off the dust and tossed it to my daughter. I said she should read this book, and told her how good it was.
After that I went to the computer to order a B-day present on Amazon. On my home page, where the say "We Recommend This for You"..It was The Glass Castle. I was a little weirded out..

The other day I was asleep around eleven a.m. (I know this because I woke up briefly and looked at the clock, then went back to sleep) and I had a dream about my ex-boyfriend. We were back in school together and he gave me a kiss and walked away. Later, around three p.m., I went on Facebook and noticed that my ex had updated his relationship status to "In a Relationship" with his new girlfriend, and that he had done so four hours earlier - at eleven a.m.

What a coincidence! I was walking around the village yesterday when a car pulled up along side of me, and someone called my name. I look in, and it's an art student I had about 25 years ago. She had been trying to arrange a meeting through email, but I kind of backed away, not wanting to return to my dreaded teaching years.
But it turned out great. She's 40, and is too fabulous for words. Her husband parked their car, and we all went to a cafe. We caught up, and I insisted she stop calling me "Miss....." I would actually want to be friends and hang out with her. I hope it happens!

Posted: 2/8/09 at 2:02pmThe other day I was in my friend's room before we walked to class. She was still getting ready, so I went on her iPod and put on a a Sufjan Stevens song. Then we walked to class. My professor likes to play songs before class. So we walk into the lecture hall, and the exact same song that I had played in her room right before was playing. We were both weirded out, especially since it wasn't even a well-known Sufjan song, like "Chicago."
The opposite of creation isn't war, it's stagnation.

One of my old school friends is now a teacher at our old school, and it's bloody weird seeing teachers I used to have writing on her Facebook wall. O_O

Posted: 2/8/09 at 5:57pmMy mother died on October 22, 2008. While cleaning out her house, my sister came across our grandfather's mass card - he died of cancer on October 22, 1947. My sister sent a text message to me about it, and I replied "how weird." Later I noticed I sent the text message at 10:22.

Posted: 2/8/09 at 7:17pmOne of my 7 year-old students was absolutely shocked when her aunt told her I'm white. Mind you, I'm the palest person. I guess she just thought I was very light-skinned. My kids also are fascinated by my home life--of which they know nearly nothing. Some of them think I sleep at school. Kids are funny.
