Ok, Roxy, I'll bite!

One thing you've either left out or are completely ignorant of is the fact that Senator Kerry has not said anything about Bush's record. In fact, just this morning, he was quoted in a newspaper as not seeing it as an issue and he refuses to comment on it. Dean, Edwards and Clark may be making some big deal out of it, but Kerry is not.

As for your politics of fear, insisting that Bush must remain in office so that you may feel secure, I'd like to remind you of the words of Patrick Henry: 'Give me liberty, or give me death," and also the words of Benjamin Franklin (generally), "Those who would trade liberty for security deserve neither liberty or security."

The basic tenet of our society is liberty, not security from a terrorist attack that may or may not happen. Men and women are dying in Iraq because they realize their one life is worth losing to protect our country and the principle's under which it was founded.

If anyone is too cowardly to accept the risk that comes from freedom, than they do not deserve to call themselves Americans.

Roxy...

Maybe no one answers you because you have nothing relevant to say. You continue to answer any comment about the Bush administration with something about Clinton. You say "it's scary they might get power". Well...like someone else said, the last time I checked the Clintons were not running for office. And you continue to forget, that many of us who currently have problems with Bush also had problems with Clinton. Maybe next time you can present an opposing viewpoint about Bush instead of dragging Clinton into the mix everytime...that's so 4 years ago.

The GOP is really worried and are fighting back with a vengence. From Salon.com (2/13/04):

"Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie criticized Democrats on Thursday for questioning President Bush's military service, calling it "the dirtiest campaign in modern presidential politics." and "Gillespie also called Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe the "John Wilkes Booth of presidential character assassination" for accusing Bush of skirting his duties with the National Guard."

http://www.salon.com/news/wire/2004/02/13/dirty/index.html

Meanwhile, Matt Drudge is at it again, hoping for a lewinski-esque replay involving Kerry (also from today's Salon):

"Vague and unsourced but hyped to the maximum by Drudge, the brief item sounded disturbingly familiar. The Internet gossip accused John Kerry of "recent alleged infidelity" with "a woman who recently fled the country," adding that a "close friend of the woman recently approached a reporter with fantastic stories." The same item ran an "off the record" comment attributed to retired Gen. Wesley Clark, who was quoted as saying, "Kerry will implode over an intern issue." Major news organizations from ABC News to the Associated Press, warned Drudge, were all over the story. By evening, however, no major news organization had run with it, though many were chasing it."

"[i]t's gonna get ugly, folks. [b]ut we already knew that."

gee, iflit, in a country where the president is routinely compared to hitler by memebrs of the opposition party, where the administration is likened to nazis, where charges of liar, profiteer, deserter and moron are tossed about like so many one liners at a nathan lane ad-lib fest, ya think it might get a little ugly? it's been ugly. thus far, the republicans have been content to let the dems swing away, but now we're gonna start hitting back. get ugly? get ready.

the opposition party might want to try to rein in the more radical elements of their party should they actually want to win the election. the acceptance on the left that bush lied and manipulated intelligence and was awol is so pervasive that references to it in a congressional hearing even pushed the normally quite stoic colin powell to blow his stack at sherrod brown and an un-named aide. this kinda smug superiority ain't gonna play to the voters, folks. if they do it, they'll come off looking like elitists and they'll lose.

my fear right now though is that kerry will somehow lose the nomination to edwards. i do not want gw debating him. that would be a slaughter. gw can hang with old woodface easy enough, but edwards would make mincemeat out of him. on the other hand, i don't think edwards would be able to even lay a glove on slick dick if they're doing a vp debate. ugh, i hate sex scandals!

Ya know, papa, what I really want is to be 18 again when all the answers seemed so clear cut to me...before I realized all the sleaze that happens behind the scenes. I want to be CLEAN FOR GENE, dammit.

I agree, though... I'd much rather see Edwards vs Bush. (Said as a democrat, barely, just sneaking in from the left....)

To show how ludicrous it has become after Bush surrendered his dental records ( a stool sample should follow ) a democrat said it only proves his teeth were there & not him. The world has to be laughing themselves silly over this b s

Sorry, Roxy, I think many of us would agree: we've already had the stool sample.

And no, plenty of people are not laughing. Anyone else read the Bob Herbert piece in the Times today? He nailed why all of this will not go away. One need not strain to plumb relevance from the Bush position on the ... applicability ... of military training during one's college years. Bush was a vocal hawk during 'Nam -- yes, he was in gung ho for the war he got Daddy to keep him out of. The parrallels between the "stands" he took in his youth and his "moral" leadership today are there to be observed. Or as someone pointed out in a Times letter, why didn't we get to use his pilot skills 30 years ago, when we needed them in Southeast Asia? He finally used them, in the photo op of a lifetime, when he declared Iraq over. (That, Roxy, had the world laughing more than his dental records.)

No, what goes 'round, comes around. "Dirty" politics? They often follow -- or run concurrent to -- a dirty little war.

All this Bush hating has totally turned me off politics period. I will not set foot again in a voting booth be it local or national. If Kerry gets in again & we get hit, who cares. What will be will be

I am totally ambivilent on the subject of politics. Between the Hate Bush festival & ( other than terrorism & taxes) Bush totally turning me off by pandering to groups who won't vote for him anyway, I could care less at this point. Al Queda uses New York to drop a nuke, who cares ( & I live in NYC ). I am totally ambivilent & could care less what happens in the future.

Not voting. There's a solution for you. I may never vote for a winner, but at least I vote. Always. Voting gives me the right to bitch about things if they don't go well. I have no interest in hearing about how screwed up things are from someone who hasn't bothered to participate. Roxy, I'd rather see you vote for Bush than not vote at all.

And by the way, I don't hate Bush but I DO hate the job he is doing. And I have no respect for him...but that's really more his fault than mine. He's a man of average intelligence (nothing more) who didn't break a sweat in college and isn't even embarassed about his C average. It wouldn't be so frightening, except that again and again, he's shown that he fails to grasp the complexities of world history, geography, and politics. The records documenting the 'rough patches' in his life (the national guard business, drunk driving charges) are either incomplete or just plain can't be found. Gee, wonder how that happens? And you tell me he'd be president without daddy's political connections and pull. (So lets not really spend much time worrying about Kerry's family connections, okay?) And to top it off, he's bought into his image of himself as a cowboy and frankly, he's more of a loose cannon than a sharp shooter.

There's a lot at stake here. If you think not having George in the White House will precipitate Armageddon, then by all means support him. I happen to believe the opposite, so I plan to do my best to send him packin' back to the ranch, ASAP. Choosing to do nothing, doesn't let you off the hook.

i'd argue that point but i seem to have lost my will to argue...oh no it's the ambivalence!! or the bass ale.

I am sick of Bush. He gets away with SOOOOOOOO much b.s. it is ridiculous. It doesn't get anywhere near the level of press it should. We have become the laughing stock of the western world because we 'elected' him into office. nowadays we are told that questioning or showing dissent IN A DEMOCRATIC NATION, is unpatriotic. At events, they relegate protesters to patches MANY blocks away so that only 'supporters' (i.e. dumb as rocks twits who would follow a lemming off a cliff you told them too) appear on screen. it's just.... i dunno HOW to descibe the idiocy and lunacy that is the bush 'administration'.
