Posted: 12/5/07 at 12:23amThe best part of the final installment for me were the Sweeney commercials. I literally flailed when they showed Sondheim, just because it was so surprising to see him on such a mainstream channel.

Same here.
They were playing during tonight's installment too, and I still was overly excited to see Sondheim. It made up for some of the less-than-spectacular moments of Tin Man. I must admit, however, the ending made me happy (sometimes I have to break out of my bitter mode). Although, I kept thinking DG's fathers' name was "A Homo" and that became a running joke for nearly the entire duration of tonight's installment.

I've been tivoing the show and haven't watched it yet, but these posts have me a little wary.
From the few minutes I saw, though, I have to say that with the black hair, Zooey Deschanel sorta looks like a darker version of Anna Friel on "Pushing Daisies." I like Friel better. Way better.

Ok, I think I am in the minority (Surprise), but I really really enjoyed it. Sure, the acting wasn't the greatest, there are some major plotholes, but on a whole it was a very 10th Kingdom-y approach.
Granted, I went in with loooow expectations, so it wouldn't take too much.
And, besty, I gotta disagree with you, and say that I love the sly puns...they make me happy. But you may be forgetting, that Maguire did bring in several movie allusions to Wicked's last part (Death and the Afterlife), especially his depection of Glinda.

Okay, clearly Im in the minority, but I really really loved this.
I missed the first installment but watched the last 2 back to back last night. There were a few tiny things here and there I wasn't fond of (namely the flying breast tattoos) but other than that, I really enjoyed it.

Well, in all fairness, maybe I should have stuck around for the rest of it.
I bailed after the first hour. I was too turned off by what I saw, and I couldn't take that "journey" with them. It wore me out.
I don't know if I'll try again or not, but I'm glad to hear (by some) that they think it improved later on.

I did the same thing.

Heh. I know many people saw Pushing Daisies and thought Anna Friel reminded them of Zooey Deschanel so much that Anna should pay Zooey royalties for stealing her quirkiness. Zooey can be a good actor...with good material.

I thought the "homo" thing too, I'm ashamed to admit. But only for that one line in the gazebo thing, when DG said - or rather, I heard her say, "What's a homo?"
Overall...it wasn't the greatest mini-series in the world, but I liked it. I think it's odd that everyone keeps calling it a "retooling" of the Wizard of Oz, now that we've seen part three where it was revealed that it's more of...a sci-fi sequel.
Alan Cumming as Glitch was definitely the best part, for me. I love him. Now I just need to see the second part...I forgot to watch it, and missed it when it was on last night.

I flipped through and saw the final half hour. A really bad Dark Crystal Rip Off! All it needed was DG to mount the Wicked Witch during the Eclipse ala Skectzies and Mystics!
From what I gathered from seeing the first 45 minutes of episode 1 (repeats of Law and Order were more interesting)and the last 30 of the final is, I didn't miss much!

Posted: 12/5/07 at 3:52pmWhy doesn't Alan Cumming choose good projects? Sure it's work and there's a pay-check but The Anniversary Party is one of his better big-screen appearances in recent years.

I heard it, too. Thank goodness I wasn't the only one who thought she said "A Homo".
My mom kept joking that Alan took on this series as "charity work". I doubt it, as I'm sure they gave him a good sum of money just to lend his name to the project. Also, who else are they going to get the eccentric yet slightly gay man?
There was a point of last night's installment where his character says "Now there's something you don't see every day!" and my father quipped "Now there's a line you hear every day!" Not the best writing in the world, but that's what just made it ever so enjoyable, the sheer campiness of it all.

I'll admit I liked most of it too. Yes.....the breast tatoos were freaky and it was even freakier how she'd "bare her chest" to let them out to fly and yes, I cringed every time they said "the O.Z." .....but overall, I liked the take on the story.
And DG's father's name was Ahamo......or Omaha backwards.....remember, he tells her he came from Nebraska?
I do wish the ending was a little longer and we'd seen the revival of OZ...not just the end of the eclipse. I'd like to see how they'd work together as a "royal family" and friends.

Posted: 12/6/07 at 1:22amI didn't see the miniseries, but is DG's father supposed to be the Wizard? In the original story that's where the Wizard is from.
